Damn! We are very much alike, well, except for the milage part. The Taco has 12k miles since June. Just too much fun. But on the other aspects, I traded a new 06' Dodge diesel for the the new 2012 Tundra, traded that for the new 14' 4Runner Trail, and traded that for this new 17' Tacco, and I'm already anxious to see what 2019 has to offer LOL.

Every one I buy I always say the same thing to the Wife, "no dear, I promise, this is the last one, this one should last at least at least 10 years", right after I say "nope, this one has everything I need so no need to mod this one".

The last new car I had 10 years was a 2002 Altima. Since 2012 I am on #4 but the Lex will be the last until it dies. It has every bell and whistle imaginable but I still found ways to mod that too.

There's a standing joke at work, that I don't get new tires when they wear out, I just get a new vehicle. :anonymous: Not that I am rich, just that I have accepted the fact that I get bored and will always have a car payment. But I promise you all, this is the last truck ;)

Time will tell I guess. I've owned 3 Ford trucks, and drove 3 more when working construction for my Dad and never had a transmission issue. All except the Ranger have had siginificant weight behind them countless times without a single problem. Tires, brakes and oil changes is all they ever saw. Each 3/4 and the one 1 ton trucks saw hard miles and were sold once they hit 150k.

    2000 Ranger
2003 F250 7.3 Diesel 12k+ lbs trailered regulary (NewHolland LB90 Backhoe on Lowboy)
    2003 F350 7.3 Diesel Same as '03
    2005 F250 6.0 Diesel Same as '03
    2013 F150 5.0 Gas 7k lbs (car trailer/t4r)
    2017 F150 2.7 Ecoboost Same as '13

My stepdad bought a new 1998 2500 Dodge with the 5.9. Truck was serviced and babied, by 259k miles he had 3 transmissions put in it...

If, and I am not holding my breath but if Tundra's get a diesel option I'll be all over it. Until then, my full size trucks will continue to be Ford.

Yea, everyone told me when I moved up to the country, "get a common rail diesel, 3/4 ton, it will last you a lifetime". 83k miles and 6 years later, besides the tranny going up, there were other things too like lights in the dash and trim pieces breaking. Said see ya, went with the Tundra. Ford is a great truck for sure. If they weren't, all those fleet departments wouldn't buy them. But you need to buy at fleet pricing to get a decent price. I read that new Ranger Raptor will be pushing 70k

Paid $32k for my '17 F-150. Crew cab, short bed, 2wd, 2.7 Ecoboost, STX package. I felt that was pretty good considering a comparable Tacoma was close to that price, only about $2k less.

Right, no doubt. Why I bought the Tundra back in the day, the Taco was as much and the rebate was $1k less on the Taco.

news flash**** all these trucks, cars, suv's, they all break, I have been in this industry (service) for 4 decades, from Chevy, Bmw, and Ford, some last forever, some are just pieces of shit, and if it is a piece of shit, you usually know within the 1st year. even if babied and overly maintained. when ya get a good one, ya kinda hold onto it. :notsure:

But I do agree. That Nissan I had was new, driven daily, maintained by the dealer (not that it means much but) and at 104k miles the tranny went up and it also had started sucking the unprocessed particles of the catalytic converter back into the engine and was scoring the cylinder walls. All told, $7,200 to have fixed. I sold it for $2,500.

That's a pretty slamming deal. I needed 4wd though. I'm not getting stuck on a wet boat ramp and wished I had 4wd. I use 4lo pretty much every time I pull my boat. Not worth the strain on the trans to keep in in 2wd unless the tides so high I'm almost level. Did it with my old boat and with my ranger too and the old boat was 1k lbs less.

I keep my vehicles for as long as I possibly can. I'm not a new vehicle kinda guy. I would rather spend my hard earned money on property & toys. My buddies all have new trucks and make fun of me because I drive a 18yo 4runner, I tell'em to keep making those payments. And my runner has outlasted some of their vehicles. I'll drive it til the motor blows then I'll throw in another one. I can't see spending $500-$600 a month to get from point A to point B!

Your situation makes sense. I dont like driving new trucks offroad so 4wd is not needed. Have my 4Runner for the fun stuff.
