Yeah but better than $1000 out of pocket. This guy got maybe $10 bucks worth of gas and cost me $1000? Hope it was worth it

What did they get, like $15 worth of gas? Morality aside, what a moron. Why wouldn't you go steal something else a little easier and more valuable and hock it to go buy some gas?

I’m curious too since you have the trd offroad, do they come with a gas tank skid still? From the pics that looked like an area the skid should cover, unless they stole your gas tank skid too?

Don't know if you would consider a used tank but they look to be reasonably priced:

The skid was on it but the skid has holes in it for whatever reason. The firefighter said the hole in the fuel tank was right where one of the holes of the skid plate was. So they basically took a flat head to one of the openings and hammered into it. This pic is from the dealer with the skid already off.

Are you suggesting insurance fraud? Just curious...

Sorry about the bad news, I was guessing at least a grand but the fuel pump replacement on top of all that sucks! Theres a group buy for those extended range Aussie tanks here, maybe you can get a deal on one of their OEM tanks they pull.

I was able to emergency patch my fuel tank, but it was steel and the hole was on a side, yours is in the worse spot possible underneath the shield. I was able to stop my leak quickly by making a quick plug out of a bar of Ivory soap- it does not dissolve in gas and makes angood field repair- keep one in my recovery kit.

Maybe we should just put a stopcock under the tank so jerks can just take what they want without putting a hole in ithe tank :p

This. Had an Olds Delta 88 in college that started leaking at the seam. I did the JB and didn't fill it up for a couple of weeks past halfway till I got a used tank. Short term fix at best, and more risky here since the hole is at the bottom.

Cut a piece of tire tube into a 3x Hole size circle. Have a small hole in middle for a zip tye. Get some aviation fuel grade B 1/2 and smear it on and shove it in the hole . it will open up and the tye will protrude from the hole then patch the outside. Did a 1 inch square hole in a water pump this way and it lasted for years. )

Too bad...would almost be worth the loss, to walk outside and see my truck burnt up with a would-be thief charred to a crisp underneath from trying to drill my metal gas tank. I'd laugh my ass off before crying myself to sleep over losing my truck.
