Lower balls lol

So tomorrow I'm going to try to put this shit on.
I greased them and got new brake pads.
I have a impack gun regular hand tools jacket stand's.
Any tips?
Hopefully my hammer can knock out the old ones.

 

I would pick up a Pitman Puller to get those off. Using a hammer is a lot of hassle

 

Get a oxygen acetylene torch and a 4lb hammer. Heat the piss out of it and smash it with the hammer and it should pop out really easy

 

I mean a Pitman Puller is like $10 at harbor freight I don't know anyone who owns an oxyacetylene torch haha

 

I'll pick up a Pittman arm puller tomorrow.

 

All you need is a mallet. Using a puller is a waste of money, time & effort. A few solid hits & they pop right out. The actual ball joint is pressed in to that piece but the two ends you are working with are just tapered bolts. Don't overthink it.

Just use a small steel mallet & hit the metal surrounding the bolts (not the actual bolts) & they'll pop right out. Then to install the new ends all you have to do is get the nut started by hand then tighten it down to the proper torque.

Don't forget to use blue threadlocker on the 4 bolts. Very, very important.

He uses the BFH-and-elbow-method but I would also recommend a pitman puller to save your ears and time.

 

Spray the 4 old bolts with some PB Blaster today and tonight. The 4 bolts can be a bitch to take off, even with an impact.

 

Will I be able to reuse the plastic dust caps that cover my lower ball joints?

It's weird/amazing how much these dogs are like family. I bring him everywhere. He sleeps next to me curling up in a ball to fit in between me and my girlfriend. He is always at least a few feet from me at any given time..

 

Someone said to use threadlocker, but it looks like the bolts already have a coating of threadlocker on them (in the first pics). The threads look slightly blue. I know some bolts that you order from Toyota already come coated.

I would use a torque wrench on such a critical part of the suspension.

Before you put the new ball joint into the hole, clean out the hole real good. You don't want any dirt or grease in there preventing the stud from seating all the way in.

 

59 ft.lbs on the 4 LBJ bolts with blue threadlocker and you're golden.
