Somebody talk some sense into me...I Special Ordered a DCLB OR, waited 3 months, it finally came in, and this guy wants MSRP! The invoice I found was around $3,000 less than MSRP.

All I see is "Invoice, Invoice, Invoice" on this thread. I need opinions guys. Please & Thank You.

    Also...I'm in NJ! :annoyed:

2018 DCLB TRD OR 4x4 auto, Tech and Premium packages. Ordered Jan 3rd, arrived Feb 27th. $38,900 before TTL. I was happy to pay that price, the dealer ordered me exactly what I wanted, didn't try to push anything else on me. Kept me updated throughout the entire process. I was in and out of the dealership in just over an hour. The truck actually came in three days ahead of when promised! 100% loving the truck!

I'm in North Jersey. Gonna give Morristown a shot.

I test drove a Taco at Holman last year. Connie Baskin is the salesperson that helped me out and she was really nice. It was closing time on a Saturday but she still stuck around and was very patient with me, even though she knew I didn't live anywhere near there.

I'd recommend her for that alone.

Sounds like a decent deal for the PNW area. What dealer did you purchase from?

Did you not discuss price beforehand? If not and/or you have nothing in writing, your only options are really to try negotiating, suck it up and pay, or walk. Honestly, if you ordered the vehicle and didn't discuss price, I would assume you were fine with msrp.

I'm from south jersey but don't know what the Toyota market is like there. You may see everyone getting 7-10%+ off MSRP but you have to keep in mind the region they're in. For example, the going rate here in the South was about 5-7% off, but I got lucky and managed to get 12% off.

I agree. We agreed on invoice before I put my deposit down. I bet they assumed you were fine with msrp. I'm sure lots of people pay msrp.

Not to make it too complicated...but I had a Trade In. That was the biggest variable. If I were just buying the truck outright, I would have negotiated the price the day I placed the order, so there would be no confusion on the day I took delivery. But 4 months later, after I placed the order, they were trying to lowball me on my trade, and weren't budging on the truck. There was about $1,000 in play, so you could pretend they were putting it toward my lowball offer of a trade, or taking it off of the price of the new truck...but either way...that was it. So we weren't a couple hundred dollars off, we were several hundred dollars off. I understand the leverage he had over me of having the exact truck I wanted, but he was taking advantage of that and I walked.

It doesnt help that I have since found a dealer, who WOULD negotiate the price of the truck before placing the order, so then my trade would be the only variable.

With the order, I was getting about 4% off MSRP here in NJ. Which I can clearly tell, isnt the best, but it's better than the alternative!

    Thanks for the input!

@ISayTaco... that is exactly why I treat a vehicle purchase as 3 separate transactions. Price of the new vehicle, trade-in value, financing (buying money). The dealer doesn't tell you but they clearly treat it this way too. They almost always have a new car sales Mgr, used car Mgr, and Finance Mgr. Each of those guys has their own goals and are only going to shift money around to a certain degree.

Like you said, they can give you $1k more for your trade but just add it to the truck or vice versa. Remember they make money off financing too, so keep all 3 of these separate and negotiate from there. I didn't even tell my dealer I had a trade until the day before I took delivery and everything for truck was already in writing. They ended up not buying my trade because they wanted to lowball and that was fine, I sold it to another dealer 3 days later.

Try Kbb's dealer car buying network. Almost like Carmax, they have dealers who will buy your car for cash without buying a car from them.

We didn't discuss trade either. Agreed to sale price and gave deposit, trade will be discussed when I take possession.

I'm currently watching Craigslist and autotrader/cars.com to see what my truck would sell for on my own. Looking like $20k won't be an issue whatsoever. With our taxes at 9.4 percent, getting a tax break on trade, if they give me $18,000 I'm at the same as selling on my own. If they don't offer that or close to it, I will keep my old one and sell by myself.
