lift and brake line extension

Many sites recommend installing extended length brake lines after lifting the rear with a new leaf pack. I was wondering how difficult it is to install these extended brake hoses. Do I need to bleed the whole system after this? I've worked on brakes on older vehicles, but I never done anything with the brake system on my Tacoma.

 

yeah, anytime you replace a set of brake lines, you'll need to bleed the entire system, as far as im concerned.,just to be on the safe side. and especially on a car or truck with abs......if you dont get every nit of air out, the abs will eventually work it out, but at the same time, too much air left in the system can make the abs act funny as hell, which is bad.

 

Its the same as your older vehicles, at least this opperation.

on another note, what height of lift do u need to do to have to think about getting longer brake lines??

 

well, right now I have an AAL, which lifted the rear approximately an 1.5", but I wan to get the Alcan leaf pack that is supposed to lift the rear 1.75 - 2". Do you think I even need to add a brake line extenstion with that set up?

 

I'm not sure how to add my pics...but I made some extensions out of some bar stock that I had around the house. Seems to work great and I have plenty of "slack" with my 2.5" lift. Check my pics...if anyone can help me out, please add them to this thread.

so no change of lines up to 3" then?

 

If you have 3 inch lift, you will notice that when you jack up the truck by the frame, the line just barely makes it to the axle when your suspension is fully extended. Mine is OK, but if you are doing some serious one wheel in the air action, you probly want to get a longer line. Its pretty tight when you lift it up like that and with some other motion involved, could be fatal to your brake line. Dunno for sure, but looks that way to me

 

Just to confirm with the crowd.

Lifts 3" or less typically don't require brake line extension unless you are doing some heavy duty wheeling.

Personally I am collecting parts for a 2" lift. Not really looking for much beyond 2 inches since this is a daily driver. This is what I have so far. Will try and pick up a set of UCA before the install.

Figure if I am going to do this, might as be right.
