Was the same cost when this happened to me 2 years ago. I had a 500.00 deductible so I had to pay 500.00 out of pocket. When it happened to me, they got all of the fuel so I didn't notice any spillage on the ground, only until my fuel warning and engine stalled did I notice something wrong. When the dealer told me (after Toyota care towed the truck in) that it was drilled, I first didn't believe them think they were up to no good, but sure enough I went out to the driveway and found plastic drill shavings on the ground. I since put high power motion sense lights in the driveway and haven't had an issue since. But apparently I was one of 10 trucks in that area that was hit

invest in a skid. Not that expensive and aluminum doesn’t weight that much.

I heard something similar happened to a friend of mine not too long ago while he was getting his car serviced. Technician placed the legs of the lift in the wrong spot. Punctured a whole right thru into the tank. Tiny leak. But then again he was almost empty when it happened.

This is my friends truck. He gave me permission to burrow some gas. I was just under the car making sure he didn't have any leaks. - true words of a tweaker

I’d love to get a tank skid for offroading, but it wont help against this, they just drilled out above mine on my 1st Gen. Also, theres a rubber tube behind the wheelwell cover on our newer Tacos that can be cut to drain gas too. Wish thieves knew about it, costs less to fix than fixing the damage done by drilling the tank.

What type of tank skid did you get? I like how they armored the bolt heads.

The price the dealer quoted me he said was $900 for the tank. The gasket and labor which came to $1400. No fuel pump in his cost break down. Even if I got the tank I found online for $500 then with labor still going to be around $1000 for me.

Another reason I'm glad I keep $0 deductible on comprehensive.

This thread really got me thinking about adding a fuel tank skid plate. Got it make it a little bit harder for the thieves

That’s the pelfreybilt skid. Wasn’t easy to put on, only because took some time moving the jack around under the skid. Directions say do with a low tank and I stand by that. I also had to bore out one hole just a little, which is also noted in direction that’s it’s a POSSIBILITY.

Shouldn't be too difficult to swap the tank yourself and save the labor cost. :notsure:

Don’t know how things are in your town. I had a Tundra last year and while I was at work someone drilled two holes in my gas tank. Lucky they didn’t blow themselves up. I was on empty when I went to work so I was lucky there and just drove across the street to get gas. As I was filling my tank gas started pouring out all over my feet. Lots of gas theft in my town during the winter. Damn junkies. Is the hole in your tank a perfect size hole? If it is call the cops and get a police report so you can call your insurance. I did this right away and saved myself 1500 bucks. Know idea if this is your issue but would be pretty random to just have a hole in your tank. Hope it all works out.

This is what I wished happen to my Tundra. I had just posted it up for sale when this happened to me. It’s actuslly prob good they didn’t though because I def got more in the sale than my insurance would have given me. However it would have been priceless to see the fucker blown into the harbor!:)
