Any of you Guys ever install an auto dimming rear view mirror with compass and temp display in your Tacoma?

I have one, but have seen that some might come with an Amber display. Most come with a blue/green display.

My man. You basically know everything huh? I would love some info on what you did. Where did you get the stuff to cover the LCD the change the color? Also, did you glue it to the windshield?

20170513_230815.jpg LOL Thx. Ya I glued it to the windshield. This colored film is a sample pack I bought off Amazon. There for video lighting. I'll throw some in an envelope and mail it to you if you want. The mirrors are tricky to get apart. I also changed the led's for the buttons to red.

If you have some extra red/orange light filters, I'll take them!

The mirror I have just has the comp/temp buttons. I don't have all the fancy home whatever stuff... I'll just be happy to have temp readings.

PM me your address. I used a dab of silicone on each edge of the filter to hold in place. I'll post a few pics of the clips that hold it together. I have extra red SMD LED's also if you want a few.

I'm using a Gentex (gntx-177) mirror, with two line LCD display like posted above. You can get it in single line, but unless you only want compass, or Temp (if equipped) two line is the way to go.

The 177 only needs 2 wires (power and ground) for compass and auto dimming. And if the mirror is capable of displaying temp (has temp button instead of mirror) you need 4 wires (power, ground, temp sensor+ and temp sensor -.

My Tacoma came with the "dual light console". :)

How far from the edge of the windshield is your mount?

Jon and I have a rare Gentex 313 model which has the trifecta of functions. HomeLink, Compass, and Temperature. This is a very rare configuration and only came on select Nissan vehicles.

In my case I had about six wires. Two for power, two for the probe, one for the rheostat, and one for the reverse signal to undim the mirror.

I saw a few if those homelink mirrors, but I don't have a garage, so I stuck with the two line 177.

Ok, I received my 177 two line mirror today. I have the 7 pin plug. It's wired pin 1 power 12v, pin 2 is ground, pin 3,4,&5 not used, pin 6 and 7 go to the temp sensor.

When I power the mirror up, I noticed the mirror instantly dims. It's facing up so it's getting light on the face of the mirror. Seems right.

There is a green light that comes on beside the temp button. However, the temp/compass display does nothing. Neither button seem to do anything. Pressing and holding the buttons does nothing

What am.i missing? Ive contacted the seller, but I have not yet heard back. Hoping for a quick fix?

Sounds like something is broken or wired wrong. Did you make your own harness or did you use one with the wiring harness made already?

I bought a temp sensor "kit" off eBay. It was basically a sensor, 13' of wire, and pins on the other end to slide in the plug. The other wires are just power and ground. One has a ring terminal on it, this is ground. The other has a spade connector. That's power. I got the plug, and power and ground wires out if a 3rd gen 4runner at a junk yard. I assume all 177, 7 pin mirrors are wired the same? I've seen nothing online that would indicate anything different?

I've seen that if the sensor is bad it will show "C" or something. My mirror shows nothing....

Not all of them are wired the same. My Gentex 313 had the same plug as a lot of mirrors, but it was wired differently for the vehicle my mirror came out of.

Ok, so but what about the 177 mirrors? I assume they are wired the same? I mean the green light comes on, and it dims....

I'm not sure. I know at least my Gentex mirror was wired differently for my vehicle application. I had a feeling maybe other Gentex mirrors are also wired differently. I had to use a 2012 Nissan Titan wiring schematic to figure out what each wire did.
