Make sure the one you get has the posts w/ cotter pins on either side of the removable tailgate instead of the one centered on bottom. People have had the tailgates fly off while driving down the road. The newer design is the one with posts on both sides which stopped flying tailgates.

Also, when I had the RTT on this trailer, it acted like a top for the trailer then I drilled out the cotter pin holes and put locks on them instead...then everything stayed locked and secured.

that is so effing cool. I would love to have that basket to put in the bed of my Tundra for cargo instead of a trailer though.

I used wheel adapters instead of changing out the axle...made more sense to me for the size of the trailer and load capacity.

Is an awesome setup for sure! I went full retard on an expo trailer but sometimes miss the simplicity of that setup. Kind of feel like going back to it and selling the expo trailer to fund a RZR.

I concur with all of this. I'm a bait soaker. When I'm not going for anything in particular, I usually have at least two rods in the water. A 10' spinning rod with an over/under rig with bloodworms for croaker/spot/mullet.

And my drum rod way out there with a 7/0-9/0 hook and a chunk of mullet. That'll usually end up with a bigger blue, speckled trout, stingray, skate, or hopefully one day a drum. Cause I'm still at zero on those. Lol.

EBay had that 20% off everything promo last night. The Squalls are normally 100$ on Amazon and I was about to buy it there until I saw on TW about the 20% off. I normally wont use ebay for easy to find items but 20% was too much to resist.

It's my first surf casting reel so should be fun. I have dozens of baitcasters for bass and catfish but something tells me this is a whole nother level of birdnest waiting to happen.

Just make sure you get your pretension good and more thumb riding is needed compared to a bait caster especially with the heavier weights.

So do I use 30ish feet of heavy mono leader and heavy thumb braking until the knot clears all the eyes. That's the part that had me worried is the knot catching a bit and birdnesting everywhere.

    Thanks for any advice.

I have started to get more into casting big poppers and stuff surf fishing. I am not much into the really long rods. The longest I'll use is one of my muskie rods which is 9'. But it's preference. I just like trying to be really accurate with my casts and where the bait goes and for me the shorter the rod the more accurate I can be.

Ride that thumb the whole way I usually apply a lot more pressure once I see the sinker hit the water and try and slow it down or stop it before it hits bottom if it hits bottom and that spool is screaming you are going to have a mess.

I can launch the long rods I've launched 5oz weight over 200 yds on a 12ft rod I just don't have the accuracy. I like shorter rods for 2 reasons more versitile and accurate. But most guys don't know how like you to really get a good load on the rod also depends on where you are space may not allow it. Around here the furthest really you'll need to launch one is 100 yds or so no need to get it wayyyyy out there. But that all depends on what the water is doing but avg is around 100 yds or so.
