70 is a high aspect ratio?

 

They're not going to behave as intended until you're around zero F or colder.. The winter rubber is going to be too soft for lateral Gs.. An all season rubber is going to be good to about 10F, but much colder than that and they stiff up too much to be of any use (sliding like a hockey puck), and the inverse is going to be true for a winter rubber, too warm, too soft(peeling like an eraser)..
They will perform much, much better for you when it gets cold again... next winter..

 

235s don't rub even 100% stock.

 

I know this and it has been around and below zero. I understand it is a different type of tire and is the reason I have it ( :

 

MOST 255s won't rub on a 100% stock setup. However, due to variances in truck suspension, tire design, mud flaps, etc... some have gotten a little rubbing. However, I believe 99% of folks that rub with 255s are not completely stock.

 

255/85-16's are very popular on Tacoma World, especially with Cooper ST Maxx's....I was thinking of going 255/80-17 and getting Nitto Ridge Grapplers....any foreseeable negatives or could I expect same results as 16's? The two tires are basically the same size, I believe. Stock Off-Road.

 

Depends on the rim's width, backspace and offset.

 

The rim is Discount Tire's MB352, 9" wide, -12mm offset, can't seem to find back space spec...

 

Dick Cepek extreme country wear update. I have had 3 of my 5 tires since 74500 miles, 103500 miles currently. (29000 miles of wear on 3/5 tires) I replaced 1 that got thrashed at AOP trip, and got full size spare sometime in June. these tires start at 18.5 / 32

measurements from saturday below. So I used 7.5 / 32 of the lowest ones, in 29000 miles. or 3866.67 miles per / 32. If I wear them to 4/32, I should get 27,066 more miles of wear, if they wear consistently, for a total of 56,066 miles. I am in a 5 tire rotation currently.

1 - 11/32 (PF)
2 - 13/32 (PR))
3 - 11/32 (current spare)
4 - 15/32 (likely a newer one) (DR)
5 - 15/32 (likely a newer one) (DF)

Thanks, yeah, I am pretty pleased. hopefully wear stays consistent. I keep them aired to 38-40 and I dont corner hard. I drive pretty conservatively usually.

10-4 to that. yes, there are so many variables with tire wear. any bits of info is appreciated. how much tread left after 30K is a good data point. or after 20K, or whenever. great thread

 

Curious on the noise level for those tires? MPG? They are on my potential list so any other feedback would be appreciated.

They howl a bit as any MT will, not too bad at all though. Just upgraded speakers, so I'm good for now MPG of a lifted, heavily armored, heavy ass truck with 4.56 gears.....14 MPG every day. Love the tires, they do well for me.

 

Happy with mine so far. Noise isn't bad at all (kind of soothing, haha). They hold well in the rain. Hard to say on MPGs because I lifted at the same time. Still trying to determine the best PSI. They look aggressive as hell and I get lots of compliments on them.

 

I am planning on a build in the next month. I want to run 255/85/16 after the lift is on (OME 887, dakar leaf pack). While looking at some UCA's they recommend a backspacing of 4.5 for running a 255/85 or larger tire.

I have the stock TX/pro or baja wheels. I know that they are 7.5 wide by 16 diameter. I also know that have an offset up 10 mm. I can't find any information on the backspacing though. Does anyone know what it would be on these wheels?

Has anyone run this size tire on stock wheels with no spacers on a similar lift? Just trying to work out any potential rub issues.

 

For those that are running the 235/80/17 AT3s, what are you finding for PSi for comfort? I know they max out at 80psi being e-rated but, I've never considered an e-rated tire on a mini truck, so I'm curious.
