The employees wouldn't benefit directly from this sort of con. I suspect their manager is complicit and provides some financial incentive under the table. We let the employee try to explain what was going on. The more he talked, the more we were convinced this was something that happens regularly.

Just shows the importance of taking this kind of thing slowly, check everything before you sign and drive off. It’s when you are in a pinch and scrambling to make things happen that you can really get screwed.

I just do a quick video of the “walkthrough” they give me. The video shows the employee, the gas gauge and the odometer reading. I then take another one when dropping off. The gas gauge/mileage scam is SOP at every Uhaul I have ever been to. And I have been to a lot over the years.

And remember st.paulys n.a. is only less than .05%. Tastes pretty good cold and gets that feel of a cold beer. And I kinda like the taste now. And it's 7 bucks a six pack at Safeway. Coors n.a. sucks, tastes like wet hay.

I may have tweaked a few things...
When I bought my Tacoma it came with fake TRD Sport decals that I promptly removed. I've been wanting to put something more subtle in their place, but it had to be custom. There's not much Sport about my Tacoma and even though I have TRD OR parts on mine I don't have the package defining e-locker. So I thought back to why I wanted a Prerunner in the first place rather than a 5-lug, which was to make dirt roads just as accessible as paved roads. I know I'm missing a lot of tools still to making these custom decals literal, but for now it captures the spirit of what I had in mind for this truck. Plus, it was way less work to create the logo than any of my other ideas.

We rent utility vans from them every couple of months for hauling equipment. Cheaper than having to own yet another 1ton truck for our small family business. My father used to have a 1ton dually for this job. But, we found it was cheaper to just rent out a utility van every few months rather than spending the 80k on a penis extension... err, I mean an almost completely useless truck...
