Adding secure storage

Good morning,

I recently purchased a standard cab 2010 Tacoma. I'm hoping you guys have some suggestions for adding storage space that can be locked, preferably cheaply (truck already cost me close to $19k; I'm feeling broke).

The biggest thing I need to haul regularly is a paintball gearbag that's roughly 32"x16"x16" or a rifle case that's 50"x6"x14". From what I've been able to find, most truck boxes aren't that big.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the advice, but from what I can see on their webside, the biggest thing they offer is only 10" tall.

locking tailgate and a good cover is the way to go....below is the cover I have and although its not a metal roll up cover, the plastic is very hard and summer would have to really go at it to get in....

I used to keep my snowboard and golf clubs in it when I was at school and no one ever got in it...i would definitely recommend the locking tailgate and cover

 

Where can you buy things like that?

I play tournament paintball myself. And I just bought a reg cab Taco....what a coincidence.

 

the best solution that I've come up with (havn't actually done it yet) is I'm planning on welding up a box with 4 mounting points that will slide into the side rails of the truck. This way I will be able to keep it low profile enough that I can still have my soft tonneau roll over the top of it. My dimensions are going to be about half the depth of the bed, full width rail to rail, and about 24" or 28" long. This way it will be metal and as secure as any toolbox, with a locking clasp and decent hinges.

I figure if someone actually goes to the trouble of figuring out that the box is technically removable from the rails, and figures out how to do it, they are either going to be seen or they were going to get at it no matter what. (and carrying that box down the street is going to be real fricken obvious)

 

I'm more of a scenario player, and I ended up with a green Tacoma.

For what it's worth, I'm using an 06 Eclipse rolling gearbag.

 

I have the same gear bag. Mine is blue and gray.
