so I am new to the Tacoma, I just picked up my 2018 TRD Sport Double Cab 4wd last week. I have already debadged and destickered it. also tinted the windows and installed LED headlight and fog light bulbs. as well as installed Go Rhino dominator D2 step bars and a Toyota bed mat. my new black TRD Pro (Sema) wheels came in Friday and now I just need to order new tires. I will not be lifting this truck at all, so I will stay with the P265/65/17 size. I am torn between 2 different tires, the Nitto Terra Grappler G2 and Falken Wild Peak A/T3W. I don't need or want anything more aggressive than those. so, out of those 2 tires which would you guys pick and why? keep in mind I am new to the Tacoma but not new to modding vehicles.

I can only speak on the Falken's, pretty quiet on the road and has very good offroad manners. However mine are 285's so may handle a bit different.

I just bought Grapplers. So far I love them! They are quiet and ride good. I went with 265/70/17s on Fuel Trophys.

If you're forcing us to pick only between those two (yikes), I would say go with the Falkens for sure. I have heard an endless amount of times that the Nittos are trash...

9/10 times, tire size has far more of an affect on performance over tire model/tread pattern.

Have you considered stepping up to 265/70R17? An inch taller tire and doesn't rub on stock suspension. That's what I did on my truck, and I much prefer the look.

You will find a ton of Falken guys over in the big thread they have going on and I'd say close to everyone loves them, at a great price point. The Terra Grappler G2s are no slouch, either. When I was investigating tires in the 265/70 range, the Wildpeaks weighed like 46 pounds and the G2s 40 pounds if you care about MPG or weight per corner. I personally went with KO2s since I just prefer the look myself. Here's my truck on TRD wheels and 265/70R17 KO2s in C load for reference.

I would suggest taking a look at BFG KO2, Cooper S/T Maxx, Goodyear Duratracs, even heard consistently good reviews about General Grabber AT2.

What did you mean by you do not want LT tires? You want something more hardcore?

I'd say the Falkens between those two. Not sure if it matters where you are, but the Falken's seem to have better reviews in the snow. As others have noted you can go to 265/70/17 with no rubbing issues, just an fyi.

    Good luck

Working on it, dissent offroad racks, shift sense pro, pedal commander , ARB twin, rigid SS dually's , dual batteries, ARB fridge , 2.5 Fox coil overs wResi , 2.5 Fox rears w resi Total chaos UCA , deaver packs , Nitto trail grappler's 33" .
Nitto terra , honestly I would and did get the Nitto ridge grapplers.
The Falkens are a great tire but they are heavy as hell !!
I currently have Nitto Trail grapplers on my two Jeeps . They’re great rotate every 3000 Miles my JKU has 60k on it’s set and still going !
Either way you will be happy

I don't have much experience with the lighter duty P rated tires, but my wife's Xterra Pro4X came with Hankook AT-M's in P rating. They make a P rated 265/70/R17 tire. They do great is snow and have worn really well. I had them in some slick muck once and they did fine their too. She has put over 50,000 miles on them and will probably get at least another 5,000 out of them before they are toast. No chipping and even wear. She did get a puncture when they were almost new, but it was a sharp piece of steel that would have taken out any tire.

    http://www.hankooktire.com/us/passenger-cars/hankook-dynapro-at-m-rf10.html

They look really good in person, the Hankook site doesn't do them justice.

ok, so it seems I have some choices to make about tires. but for all you guys who switched sizes to the 265/70/17, can you tell me how bad it threw the speedometer off? I know you are only talking about 1" more in diameter, but I am sure the speedo is off a lil? I did this same sort of thing on an F150 I had a while back and it was off a MPH or 2.

also, the 265/70/17 will fit on stock suspension, with factory mud guards and 17x7" wheels with 4mm offset without rubbing anywhere?

Falken Wild Peak A/T3W.. I went with the 265/65/17 XL on 17x9. I really like the wider stance and wanted to stay closest to the same diameter as the stock, as I need every MPG due to long commute. So definitely no rubbing with factory mud guards.. Great wet road tire too IMO..

I have BFG K02 265/7017 I haven’t noticed speedometer changes yet, although I’ve only had them on for about a week. Love the tire and look so far, haven’t had any issues 42CC0EAF-A85B-4A70-85EF-D049D27829B7.jpgF88087DC-0CD3-49D4-8BF4-BD590BB74ACF.jpg
