So I just got the ralley harness and in the process of installing it. The directions talk about plugging the male connector nearest the battery...however, maybe I am overlooking it, but I cant seem to find where I need to plug it in yet?

2nd question...What is everyone doing with the original headlamp connectors? Are you leaving them hang or zip tieing em? Or are you removing them.

3rd question..Where is everyone mounting the fuses?

With that said, what is everyone doing with the original headlamp connector on the passenger side.

Here’s mine half baked right now need to tidy it up but you can see attached straight to the battery an male connector in factory harness nearest battery an it attached to bulb ran under Radiator shroud an zip tied underneath an attached to passenger side

 

Male connection is the pronged connector on harness an other 2 plugs goto headlights I left my factory harness hanging an zip tied new one

 

Since you've found the answer to your first question you've kinda got the answer to your second - the driver side connection takes care of itself. As far as the passenger side tape it up well and zip tie out of the way. Do not remove it. If there was ever a problem with the harness you could just plug the stock harness back in until you were able to repair. This also lets you remove it and connect it back stock if you decide to sell. Then you can move it to your new truck. If Can't help with #3, I bought from Headlight Services and it's fuses are inline an don't require separate mounting.

 

Update from someone who actually did this upgrade on my 1st gen. My left low-beam finally died today after 9,286 miles (1 year, 3 days after I first installed). I expect my right to burn out soon and am glad that I bought TWO full sets of the OSRAM H4 12V Hyper Bulb 85/80W bulbs when I ordered the wiring harness. I highly recommend this less expensive upgrade than retrofits if you want a SIMPLE install and high performance for less $$$. Even after I would replace the bulb sets for 8-10 years, it is still less expensive than retrofits.

 

If using the two philips bulbs you listed above, do you need to replace the harness? Or is that only for the higher powered Osrams?

 

*EDIT* I went back to the original post, which you should as well, and re-read the updates. All of the bulbs you quoted (including the two Philips you asked about) are in a section named stock wattage bulbs:

Nice! Just ordered 4 bulbs and got a wiring harness on the way from headlight service.

 

Only thing I have not done yet is get the harness, I will wait a little longer for nice weather.

Yup and serves the same purpose.

 

The harness is also in the original post with a link to Mudmans review posted in this thread. It is very high quality and uses real German relays (vs German Hella that are now produced in China). It is a very nice harness.

 

do you need a wire harness for bulbs that are more wattage than the stock ones? I have some aftermarket headlights and they have 65 watt H9's in them and the bulbs that I want are 75 watts so I was wondering if those will work just plug and play?

 

A 65w H9 will outperform a 75w H11, though they will have shorter bulb life. You can run either on the stock wiring. However, you will get noticeably better results with a wiring harness when stepping up the wattage.
