I just saw ARB doesn’t make a locker for taco with factory locker? I want a real locker. I want locked 2WD over 5 mph. Do I have to get a junkyard non locking axle to put a locker in?

Have you looked into Harrop? They make aftermarket e-lockers that fit Tacomas, not sure if they have one that fits your diff but may want to check them out.

Never heard of them. I’ll check them out. Kinda scary putting something like that from a company I have never heard of though. ‍♂️

You'll have to get an axle from a sport or SR5 model. Nobody makes a rear locker for Off-Road models because they already have a locker.

No idea what's been done for 3rd gens but 2nd gens have a locker anytime mod that can be done.

I was reading one of above mentioned links . . .cause it’s a proprietary third member regular carriers won’t swap in. Anyone run a diode and a manual switch to be able to lock independent of t case?

Yeah you can't just was the carrier .You'll need the whole axle housing and all from an SR5 or Sport.

Wish I had done more research before I got TRD. SR5 would have been better choice. . . Waiting for someone to say you only need the locker once you are already stuck lol.

You could always convert the locker in your truck to a cable operated system and completely remove the computer from the equation.

My only fear would be they make the locker disengage after 5mph for a reason. Weak shift fork or something not engineered to rotate quickly. I would have to tear into it to see how difficult it would be to manually lock it.

If you're willing to break your truck and void all warranties in the process, then go right ahead

There's hundreds if not thousands of people who have overcome the systems in first and second gen Tacomas to make them work at any speed. thTe
issue isn't running the locker at speed. The elocker diffs are just weaker than the non-locker diffs anyway. I've seen multiple elocker diffs blow up and none of them were with the locker locked. The best solution is to swap out fir an SR5 axle and put in an aftermarket ARB or Harrop locker.

That makes sense. Better to keep it in there to keep my from putting bigger rubber and stressing the little locker lol. Not very reassuring people are blowing up open difs lol.
    Thanks for input though.

They make lockers for the front as its a conventional 3rd member. I would be skeptical on locking a IFS from seeing how few splines are on front axles. Makes a Dana 35 look like a 60.

Harrop is a huge brand in the 4x4 locker scene overseas esp in Australia. They're just recently becoming popular here in the states

Only manual trans non factory locker trucks got the 8.75" axle. That includes the 2.7L SR Manual. All factory locker trucks also got the 8.75"

ARB says the RD232 works with all OE Locker Equipped axles.

Why isn't the 232 on ARB's website . . .or any other website I have found without specifically googling RD232. Gonna have to look into this.
