After lusting over this thread for over a month or two I finally pulled the trigger on a set of Cooper ST/MAXX 255/85/R16's. I can't wait to get them on. :bananadance: Stock OR suspension and wheels.

The lift gods do not shine upon me. When I had a 2" lift with the JBA's I was able to get the tire to rub all the way to the center of the tube. This is with the stock OR wheels. Marlin suggested spacers, now I have about 3/4" between the UCA and tire at full lock. But also I am rubbing my cab mount. I need as spacer thats more in the middle or a wheel with less BS. Gonna try and do the CMC this weekend.

    Will post results later.

Btw Anyone have their wheel hub center to fender measurement? I'm wondering if im not lifted as much as I should be.

What do you mean “center of the tube”, and what size spacers do you have now that gave you the 3/4” clearance to ucas? You’re talking wheel spacers I presume?

When im talking about the tube, I mean the tube used to make the UCA. In the photo above its the portion just before the ball joint (to the left). I used 1.25" spacers suggested by Marlin.

Gotcha. Thanks, that’s really helpful. Very few folks with the JBAs. Is the 3/4” clearance an estimate or did you measure? I want as small a spacer I can get away with...

I recently went with the 255/85/16 Cooper ST Maxx. They look great and no rub. However, I don't think the tire shop did the alignment correct and used the default factory settings. The truck wonders and has some bump steer. I have read that some are using 2 degrees of caster to compensate for the larger tires. What alignment settings work the best for for the larger 255/85/16?

Let's keep this easy. And avoid crashing the search engines. Those who had success with mounting on stock rides, please post your truck year/model, any lift, tires, and alignment details. (I am hoping to get the numbers for throwing Discoverer ST's on my stock 16 TRD OffRoad.

Updated - I took it back to the tire shop and had them adjust of the size of the tire instead of the factory settings (265x70). They just made some minor adjustments and told me that the issues are related to the size (height of tire).

After further driving, the bump steer and "wondering" steering is not noticeable below 50-55mph. At higher speeds, both issues return. Is that the expected handling with 255x85 or should I use another tire shop ;) ?

    Lots of sail boat fuel
How low have you taken them and on what width rim? That's my battle right now. There some spots I take my 265/75/16 down to 12psi, and get mixed reviews airing down that low on a skinny tire with our readily available rims

Got my tires Tuesday and they were mounted, balanced, and aligned today. No rubbing so far on stock suspension and wheels. I am very excited to put these tires to use.:D:D

Man those coopers are chunky! Very attractive tread design. Just wish they weren't 60 lbs!

285s are 3 lbs heavier, but yea it's crazy the 255 weigh that much.

It’s the e rated 10 ply right? I dig the ride of these 255/85s and the lack of rolling resistance. Getting 18+ mpgs

Yes, the tires I put on are Load Range E which are 10 ply. If I stay around 18+ mpg I would be happy with that. In the short drive I did from the shop to home I noticed the speedometer was reading 3 mph lower than GPS/Waze at 55 mph. Not sure if I am going to bother with a Hypertech or not.

I did the hypertech cause I want mpg and odometer both to be correct when I see it on the display
