i have 2017 Tacoma trd off road. I was wondering is it worth replacing the stock air system with a trd performance cai? Or is it waste of money. I want a faster acceleration on the truck. Any thoughts?

Don't buy a CAI for Faster acceleration, it's more of a lil bling under the hood and maybe sound a bit louder. If you got money to spend on it, then do it.

A CAI will get better mpg and a small gain in horsepower

The most noticable mod I did was the reflash. I think Injen may be making something for our truck I may be interested in.

a nice addition for some MT drivers who use more noise to help guide shifting. i didn't get it for power and I'm totally happy with it.

I like my Airaid intake but then again I got a once in a lifetime deal for $150. I would never pay more than $200 for an intake. Just like everyone is saying, there’s no real performance gain or MPGs that I noticed. But the sound is amazing. I think people think they’re gaining some power because the sound makes it “feel” faster. Save your money unless you can find one under $200 imo

I have the TRD performance intake along with the TRD exhaust and to me there is a noticeable improvement in throttle response out of the gate. I think you should listen to folks that have actually done these modifications, rather than those who are just nay sayers and have never actually driven a truck that have the performance intake and exhaust installed.
The stock intake is already a CAI as it draws air from inside the fender well not from the engine bay. The improvement is from the design of the performance intake as it has a larger air horn to draw more air and a straight tube with no bend for less air turbulence.
I think if you changed the title of your thread to “For those who have installed the TRD performance intake, have you noticed a improvement?” You would get a more accurate respons.
Why listen to someone’s advice about a product, when that someone has no experience using the product.

I have not installed the TRD CAI and like you, I seriously considered it. I have a number of upgrades/mods that I would like to accomplish, and I decided to put the CAI on the backbuner for now.

I read a number of threads, and more often than not, people discouraged the investment citing no performance gain. I wanted some actual examples to help me make the decision. YouTube has a few CAI comparisons with actually dino tests. From what I gathered, there are HP improvements but it comes mostly at the peak output of your engine. Most had no low end torque improvements. The examples I saw showed no or very little difference in “my” everyday driving style. In the end, I decided my money was better spent elsewhere for now. I might revisit this upgrade later on.

However like I said in for my first post. If you got money spend it on what you like!

I have the reroute URD Ypipe, TRD exhaust, and the TRD intake flow accelerator. The way I saw it was the CAI wouldn't even be noticeable fornthe amount of money they cost.

You bought the wrong truck or vehicle. Try a sport car or an F-150 Eco-boost

I have both the TRD intake and TRD exhaust and I can say from experience that they don’t make a perceptible difference.

you are aware that the TRD cold air intake takes the air from the fender right?
and that the factory intake is from the same spot.

The only difference is the filter lol.
    Buy a new filter.

CAI will do nothing. You want more power go for a tune.

Biggest impact is indeed in your wallet. I have an AFE CAI along with an MBRP exhaust which is 1" wider than stock. I absolutely LOVE the sound, but as far as affecting power or MPG, it is very minimal. You might notice a little more torque (especially combined with a more free-flowing exhaust), but don't expect anything truly noticeable.

That said, I spent near $600 on the AFE. It looks cool, it sounds cool, and life's been good to me so I can afford that luxury. If you're not so comfortable in the financial sense and have the $500-600 to blow, GET A TUNE.
