That bow looks like an old Bear, back in the mid late 60's (maybe early 70's) they had two color combo's if I remember correctly. Reason I know this my Dad's was a black/brown color and my Mom's was as pictured. Not that, that is a "girls" bow.
Funny thing I took a shot at my brother at about 60 yards, (he pissed me off) would have nailed him but he ducked behind the storage shed door. Location was Fort Knox Kentucky 1972.

I say get a new string for it, get some arrows (stash away from children) with field tips and shoot away. Then again if you bow hunt, take it out. Get back to basic's.

the property is some of the best I have seen in the area. Was an old farm in the 20's, then left to sit. The new owner got with the DNR and did some work to get it back to the way it should be, (remove old wire, posts, plants that are not native to IN.)
Have nailed bucks their for the past 3 years, great thing is only 3 people are allowed to hunt it. The owners brother has a farm less than a mile down the road with about 4 times the land. Lots of everything, but they both have rule....
    1) no ATV's
    2) no damaging tree's with tree stands, climbers or ladders only.
    3) no head hunting
    4) need to stay out of the wood for 20 days prior to season.
That is why I am setting up things now, will have my turkey blind up in a few weeks. needless to say I am ready to hit the woods again.:D

you are gonna love a re-curve, when you feel you have that down go to a longbow. You can pick your length, and I would say go with an American Yew. Hand made and a true work of art, but make sure to get the arrows shafts also.

Yes, that is an old Bear. By the looks of it's a Grizzly, late 60's or 70's as Longbow said....strung backwards too  They were (are) good solid bows.

Let me know when you get it Will and I'll send ya a few wood arrows. I need to know the weight and your draw length. Those old Bears aren't quite centershot and the shafts have to be tuned a little to shoot well.

No big deal, I make my own and I've probably 500 of the things around, I'll twist a new string too if the one on it is worn, takes but a few minutes...you don't need a string breaking .
Get that back healed up before you do much bow shooting. If it's a problem you can get a note from the doc and hunt with a x-bow in most states until it's healed.

yeah.....i know!!! trust me!!! i still think either way...........it takes alot to mater shooting any kind of bow......just that longs and recurves are alot harder and take more skill than a compound.:) there is an art to bowhunting.....and it takes time to master it.

you are correct its a bear bow, it has a gray side, and the yellow side, its very old..... from 70's maybe, so all your fats are correct i guess.....
we used it on the backyard, we made a cardboard target.... so long ago LOL

Ill get more pictures tomorrow.... its about 1.5 m long with the string....but i´ve seen my brother put the string all the way around, so the gray side becomes the outside, and it gets a very different shape, ill see if i can get it that way tomorrow

    +1 on that.

If you go the cross bow route, give me a yell before you buy. I know here many people don't use them, so the price may be cheaper.
I know when they passed use of a pistol round in a rifle, for deer hunting prices went up a couple hundred bucks.
And I know high power guns are cheaper in other states than here. Meaning I can't go to my folks in TENN and buy a high power, state is not allowed to sell to people who live in IN.
