My favorite broadcaster was Peter Mehr, first ballot hall of fame broadcaster. He cheered for Flames goals, but he also cheered for everyone else. Listening to him was a treat locally and nationally when he did the Olympics for CTV. He did mostly radio but his TV calling was great too.

Maybe I’ll warm up to the new broadcast team but right now I’m not impressed. Neither are most of the Leafs faithful. You know what happens when most of Canada’s hockey fans don’t like someone on HNIC right? Again, I guess we will see.

Although I never really like him, back in the day Don Wittman would be doing hockey Saturday, curling Sunday & Olympics Monday. Pretty versatile announcer but he used to piss me off constantly telling me how much time was left in the overtime period.

This whole notion is retarded , the whole HNIC broadcast is Leafs biased , thats all they talk about over 1/2 of every broadcast , every fucking weekend

The funny thing is Hughson was likely moved to Toronto because of his positive reputation. To my understanding he was liked out west. Give him time, he’ll start catering to the eastern ego before too long.

Because more than 50% of Canada is Leafs fans. Deal with it. Wait, you’re from BC. That’s the province who doesn’t give a shit about the Charter or what’s best for Canada. Carry on.

I get it. Every market has an ego. Every region is the most important to its fans. That’s why these conversations come up. I’m not looking for him to pull down his pants and get on his knees. A neutral Leafs game call during the playoffs would go a long way though.

Our local broadcasters aren’t unbiased. It’s relatively subtle, but I who really wants to hear their local play by play guy sound stoked when the opposition scores? I sure as hell don’t.

Just to be clear, the current government lost the last election and most of us working folks are embarrassed about the NDP.

Obviously the ratings dictate a Leafs bias and there's no point in being bitter about it but true fans don't just want to hear about one perspective. Long time Bruin fan but I cheer for good hockey nowadays and like hearing about all the teams. Our sports media in Vancouver is focused solely on local teams. It sucks, unless there's a national sports story we don't here anything about other markets.

Just to let you know there are no politics in here. Current events references like I poked at are usually fine, but straight up mentioning parties or elections is usually a no no.

Vancouver is a large city with a pretty focused market. Locally I’m lucky, Calgary has a large population of people from outside of province. Habs, Leafs, and the other original six teams get a lot of local discussion.

The population of Southern Ontario alone is ~13 million. I've lived there for a few years in the past. They bleed blue once you get outside of the NCR. Stack on to that at least 1/6th of the rest of the population are likely Leafs fans and you basically have 50% of the population are Leafs fans. I'd suggest it's even more than 1/6th of the rest of the country too since half of Calgary and Edmonton are from either Ontario or Newfoundland. Both provinces obviously have large ties back to the Leafs.

Deal with it Islander, no one cares about BC except BC. The Canucks are nothing more than a regional team like the Sens. They're just lucky they play in a larger center so they won't fold.

    In your own emoji,.

Don't get mad, get glad. At least in 4-5 years your team might be worth talking about again.

OZ-T can take it, he's a big boy.

I know it hurt him a bit. I can count the times he's had to throw insults rather than some witty/baited reply. That being said he's a guy that feeds on the frustration he creates. A little of his own will get him motivated in time for playoffs. He'll be fine.

Like he's said more than once, it's the hockey trash talk thread. Hockey trash talk is what happens here, even though we do have civil discussions on the side.

Just keep your hands off the nail gun for a couple of days. That’s a terrible way to develop a permanent speech impediment.
