Ha...yeah, nobody or hardly anybody uses a monopod or anything else up there......just not practical with some of the angles we get. However, I know a few that like to use ridiculous shutter speeds but they're paying a penalty with the ISO goin sky high! And with anything, practice, practice, practice!

Where were you exactly for this? In the parking lot area, or down that gravel road a bit? I wasn't there very long and didn't get nearly as good of shots as this but I was hanging around the parking lot area. This looks like its more down that gravel road so you can see them more head on when coming around the bend?

Coming down the 190 the first dirt lot on the left before the paved lot. It's actually at the start of the canyon up on the hill....has a dirt path heading up to it. You were there during an intense period of flying.....did you see the A-10's?80-0270-A-10C-DM.jpg 80-0211-A-10C-355FW.jpg

I used the 7D II in DV but had to make due with a 70-200 for the planes... That's my long range as I mainly do landscape stuff

Good stuff. The majority of the shots I ended up with were with my Tokina 11-16, few with my canon 24-105 and a cpl with the 70-200. I upgraded about 3 years ago from the 60D.
7D I is a solid camera and that 55-250 is pretty decent for a kit lens. I used to have it.

Unless you need the 2.8, get the f4. Way cheaper, way lighter and incredibly sharp. That's what I have, it's perfect for me. I'd hate to carry around the 7DII and the 70-200 2.8. Camera is heavy enough as it is

I've been debating going mirrorless for a while. Looking at some of the Fuji stuff. I've heard good things about Olympus as well. Love my canon gear but for traveling it's not ideal

From what I hear Canon/Nikon are a step behind in the mirrorless arena compared to the other 3 (Fuji/Sony/Olympus) maybe they will catch up eventually!

I was just referring to mirrorless, not DSLR. Canon/Nikon still own that market. Maybe I am misinformed though on the mirrorless

I'll be spending some time around DV in April on my way to visit family near San Diego. I love photography ... and as far as equipment on those trips I have an MFT body with 12-60 kit lens handy in the truck next to me and a pile of pro Nikon gear inside a massive Pelican case in the camper shell. That has worked just fine... your country down there is spectacular and I just hate to leave the heavy gear at home. That's one more reason to have a Tacoma in my books anyway.

Amazing shots! I miss my 30D. Was stolen. Never replaced it but had travel insurance to compensate me for it. The pics on this thread make me want to get another DSLR

For the 70-200, f/2.8 is well worth it. It's one of the more versatile lenses in the Canon (and Nikon) lineup and the extra speed you gain makes it usable in a lot of different scenarios. For example, a TC is very usable with 2.8; f4 not as much. Especially when you need higher shutter speed. Edge-to-edge sharpness is better with 2.8 as is DOF.

That's not to say the 4 is not a good lens, it is. And for brightly lit use, it's a great lens. f/2.8 is just more versatile in my opinion.

I got a CHP alert today about an accident closure on 190 near Townes Pass. Maybe someone distracted - or startled - by a jet flyby.

    Just the basics
There was a carbeque up there. Think it is open now. Not the carbeque, the road.:burnrubber:
