Are you shooting 5.56 out of a 10.5"? I assume you're running the AR's as pistols?

    The 10.5” is 5.56, yes. It’s a rifle.

I love my 11.5” SBR in 556, great home defense rifle, particularly with a suppressor.

So, new to the whole AR platform and just getting back into shooting after about 15 years of being out but with the whole threat of banning these rifles in my state, figured I should get one before I can t anymore. Picked up a S&W M&P Sport 2 and a Vortex Strikefire II red dot sight. I can already tell that modifying this rifle is going to be as bad as modifying my Taco.20180310_111917.jpg 20180312_094624.jpg

Mind sharing where you got it/how much you paid? I'm looking at that one also. It will be my first AR.

For the money they're a nice shooter. Can't speak to long-term reliability because I've only got about 2000 rounds through mine, but it's quite accurate even with the factory irons (or the factory plastics, lol) and I haven't had any malfunctions that weren't my own fault (I've had a couple instances of failure to feed because I didn't seat the mag :anonymous: )

Purchased it from an independent gun store here in RI for about $600. Gave me a fair deal on it I thought and I like doing business with local stores. Came with a PMAG 30 round magazine and a cable lock as well.

Everyone that I know that has one has nothing but good things to say about it. That and the price point made it an easy buy in my mind. Hopefully the magazines that I have will work. Should since they're government issued 30 rounders. Need that basic training muscle memory to kick in.

First thing I do is get rid of the stock trigger. Got Geissele SSA's.

The Geissele Super Semi-Automatic (SSA®) trigger is a semi-automatic only version of Geissele Automatics’s Super Select-Fire trigger. The SSA is a 4.5lb. non-adjustable combat trigger that is a precision two-stage trigger and allows precise and accurate trigger control. The SSA’s two-stage design allows the trigger to be light enough for accurate and precise shots, but forgiving enough for CQB. The SSA is safety certified by Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center. It is recommended for demanding applications such as Law Enforcement use, Close Quarters Battle (CQB) and mid-range carbine work.

I've been looking into their rail systems and read nothing but good reviews. Guess I'll look into their triggers as well. Might take some time to do these mods versus the truck. Wife doesn't mind the truck as much as she does the weapons for some reason :notsure: Guess that's why we cancel each other's vote out in the elections .

The PMag and Hexmags work fine in it, as long as you seat them. It's the only gun I own that needs a whack on the mag to seat it after it clicks in, so it's gotten me a couple of times. Everything else I own when you feel it click into place, you're set.

I have Three SSA’s and Two SSA-E’s. Once you go Geiselle you never go back. Like you I like how the SSA still has a full power hammer spring.

Or you can shoot the stock trigger, work on your fundamentals, and learn to be a better shooter.

    Then start making changes.

All of these box stock ARs are good enough to learn on. Making changes up front is just going to mask over bad habits.
