Hi guys I have a 2016 3rd gen. I have a tepui tent and I am looking at camper shells for my long bed double cab. I can't seem to find a forum that someone has discussed strictly the subject of weight and issues that could be caused buy mounting a tent on top of a camper shell.

Apologies for any ignorance if I have misused the search but functio and it does exist.

Also check the thread in expeditionportal on RTTs. If I were going to add one to my shell I'd want a heavy duty/commercial shell and I'd want a track mount type system to help distribute the weight. I don't know about the third gen beds but if they're like the 2nd gen I'd add bed stiffeners as the weak bedsides start spreading out over time.

I would go this route if you have a DC. That way (even tho some say its safe to mount a RTT on a topper) you don't even have to think about it.
