Snugtop dealer in MA?

I am having no luck finding a Snugtop XTR dealer in MA. Does anyone know of one in central MA or near Nashua, NH?

try camp out i think the name is in oxford, and there is a cap dealer in westboro on rt 9 not sure what either carry though

 

There are none on the east coast. Closest one to us is an hour south of St Louis. Best bet is to look for a used one or pick one up while on a road trip out west.

 

Is there a specific reason you want a Snugtop? I ordered a Snugtop for my '06 and have been disappointed with it.

First, although the dealer said the topper would be in in a week, it took over three months for delivery because Snugtop refused to ship to the Midwest from California until they had a full truckload of orders.

When I got the truck home I noticed that the topper was mis-positioned and when I was re-installing it I found that the fiberglass mounting area had several places that were paper thin. While pushing up on the interior of the topper I got about a half dozen fiberglass "needles" stuck in my hand. I later had to sand the entire interior as these kept breaking off and getting all over everything. While inside I found that the topper was "snug" in name only as I could see daylight in several places around the base -- the rubber gasket is not large or springy enough to fill all the areas it needs to fill -- I cut some foam rubber and used some caulk to get a good seal around the base of the topper.

When checking out the lights I found that the dealer had hooked up my interior light to the the left blinker wire and my stop light to the parking light wire.

So far, so good -- then it rained and everything in my bed got wet. I took a hose to the topper and found out why -- the windows leaked. I removed them and found that the rough-cut holes in the fiberglass were way bigger than needed -- they were so big that they came almost to the edge of the window trim. A few tubes of silicone and a careful re-install of the windows solved the leak problem but shouldn't have been necessary.

Finally, the supposedly color-coded paint is about a half shade off -- it's pretty apparent where the topper ends and the truck begins. I had a color-coded Leers on my '87 and '03 that you would have thought were painted at the same time as the truck.

Why did I get a Snugtop? Well, because I was told by the dealer that they were the best option for the 05+ Tacomas. Maybe I just got a bad one but that's been my experience with Snugtop -- I won't be buying another one.

 

Thanks for the info guys. I really like the look of the XTR cap on a double cab short bed, but have not seen any Snugtops in person. I'll take your experience and lack of availability here as a sign to look else where.

My SnugTop SuperSport fits great, paint matches, has no fiberglass burrs, and way way less expensive than the comparable ARE or LEER but ... it was painted and installed at NUMMI as package "2C". I wanted VSC, side airbags, and the cap. None of those were standard features in New England so I had to special order the truck.

If I couldn't get the SnugTop my second choice was an A.R.E. You might want to check out the Z series. Mastercraft Truck Caps in Leominster or Cap World in (tax free) Salem are dealers.

 

All that and you didn't complain to Snug top?

I feel that they should have taken it back and gave you one that represented what the company builds.

 

I probably should have but I'm the type that just fixes the problem the best he can, bitches about it a while, and then moves on. Other than the slightly-off color I have to admit that the topper, once I got the leaks sealed, does its job.

I really wish the Leer I had on my '87 would have fit on my new Tacoma as it was a very solid topper and had a nice smooth interior finish. I had a boat rack I made bolted onto it too and could have had it painted to match my Taco. Those old Leers must have been good toppers as the dealer was really keen on me including it in the trade-in.

I guess my advice is to find a representative model to examine before you order. Or better yet find a dealer that has the specific topper you are going to buy in stock so you can check it out beforehand.
