I've been thinking about how real seats in the back would be nice...

you must hate the knob shifter for the Ram, nothing better than a column shifter, for an automatics at least.

I might be interested in the wheels. There are a few people planning to off-load some wheels in the nearish future so I'll probably jump on the first available. I'm guessing you probably want to sell the wheels and tires as a package?

 

Preferably as it makes life easier

 

Shrug. All the modern column shifters do is move an indicator and it sends an electronic signal to the transmission, same as a rotary dial. Console shifters are the same now; there's no direct mechanical connection to the transmission from the shift knob. It's all done electronically. Ram, Ford, GM twins, doesn't matter.

 

That's good to know because the linkages broke in my father's 02 Tundra.......that was not a cheap fix.

 

I get that, I think its just more satisfying and intuitive to move a shifter then rotate a dial.

 

My grouch about the Ram rotary dial is that it means you can't pick your gear when you're towing. I mean, they map the shift points out pretty well on the new trucks, but sometimes it's nice to make the truck hold a gear just that little bit longer when you're towing.

Its popular to hate them. They have some good songs though.

I'm tempted to ask how anybody would possibly hit the buttons that wrong, but I'm sure those people are out there.

 

Or in this case you go to turn on the heated seats then BANG you shot the dashboard

 

Yeah, anybody who's that bad with controls shouldn't be carrying.

Any body/paint guys in here? I've got a set of Bushwackers for my truck. I'm thinking I'll paint them using rattle cans from automotivetouchup.com and I'm trying to estimate how many cans of adhesion promoter/primer/base/clear to order or if it would just be cheaper to pay somebody and I would appreciate an experienced opinion.

 

From what I can tell (without calling them), they have 1k paint meaning it's not 2 part reactive based paint. It won't be as durable as 2k paint which requires an activator and has a pot life before it hardens. If you want to use aerosol cans, see if their paint is compatible with a 2k clear. USC makes a clear in a spray can that has a pin which you hit and it releases the activator in the can. It's called SprayMax and works good. 1k paint will easily be removed with Lacquer thinner where as 2k will not. Spraying 2k clear over 1k paint is ok if compatible and the clear will give you the protection you would want.

 

You can still manually shift. I guess there are buttons on the steering wheel which allow you to manually select your gear. That would be one of my gripes about it also but, I won't ever buy a Dodge 1/2 ton so it's sort of irrelevant...

Paintscratch.com sells a catalyzed clear coat, do you think that would be better?
