will that allow you to use your tune as a starting point or will we start "fresh"? not sure what I would change, maybe make the throttle a slight bit more sensitive (not the tip in portion) that may help my "mountain pass" issue.

in other news, I did drive the interstate today on lunch, and now I can really see the power you guys were talking about especially with ECT (my long drive Saturday was with my wife and she gets car sick easy so no 0-80 runs on the on ramp) I had a Nissan Maxima leave right next to me, trying to race me to the merge point on the on ramp, he got the jump off the line (I call foul LOL) but he couldn't get completely ahead of me... I slowed to let him in (wasn't trying to be a dick, just wanted to see what the truck would do now) very impressed. that was with ECT on btw.

I did have one more run from 0-60 but the truck kind of launched, fell on its face, then launched again... it was weird, and I wasn't able to repeat it. even after the spirited runs and the jaunt through the mountains.. 19.7mpg at the fill up. now we'll see what I get for the next couple weeks of commuting. with winter gas it's been 16.8-18.8 pre-tune.

Has anyone purposely tried running 91/93 octane in the 87 tune to see how it performs?

thought this was the 4.0L thread, unlikely that we will release self editing option for the 3.5L.

I did. Just a touch more pep in it's step, perhaps, but that could be placebo. I would just commit to one map with the appropriate octane. I ran 91 on the 91 map, had my fun. Tested 87 with an 87 map and I'm enjoying that too, don't feel the need to go back to 91 (*note: not because of fuel economy, don't care about it. Just cause I had my fun and the 87 maps are great too and I don't need my truck to be a racetruck)

Anybody running this tune have experience driving the 2nd gen with the 4.0? I am curious how this engine/tranny is with the tune, compared to the stock 4.0.

85 gas is ok with 87 tune I assume? We don't have many stations with 87 gas.

no. you can go UP in Octane but not down. 87 is the MINUMUM you can run on the 87 tune. and 91 on the 91

EDIT... guess I was wrong. not the first time

You'll be okay. Are you at a higher elevation? Because if so, I'm not surprised you have lower octane options then and in that situation, you'll definitely be okay. My local options are 86, 88, and 91. I've been running the 86 without issues

The stock tune is able to run on "regular" gas which is usually 85-87. You should be fine running the 87 tune. @OVTune can verify that.

The reason running anything less than 91 octane on the 91 tune is because of finer tuning to all the variables in the engine.

87 tune = general tune for "regular" gas
91 = fine tuned specifically for 91 octane or above only

Did some logging with Techstream today, looks like my co-pilot (son) captured a stutter event. TSE file sent to @OVTune .

Running 1.03C 91 file for 04B10 ECU. Almost 400km since flash, and yes I did the idle learn thing..

Here are some highlights (forgive newb PrtScn images):

Correct me if I’m wrong but the dyno numbers posted with the HP gains were the 91 tune. I’m sure the 87 makes a few more ponies but that’s really it. It was said by Mat that the 87 benefited from the major changes to the shift logic but the timing and fuel was only cleaned up.

To be clear the 91 Tune is faster, pulls harder, and makes more HP than the 87.
I keep seeing different opinions which is fine but you can’t argue the numbers.

Can you verify the numbers the 87 made?

Just wanted to clarify once and for all for those who are new are trying to decide which tune they may want.

87 doesn't make more power than stock does, it just benefits from the changes to throttle limits / shifting / torque / etc. But as far as top end power no changes

Not to start an argument, but how are you driving where 10-20 hp makes that big a difference? You get power from torque. Power is a mix of HP and Torque. I don't see spending the extra $$$ for premium gas for daily driving unless you are tuning specifically for the performance, or you got loads of cash to burn :D.

I could see this for towing, or carrying weight. There can't be that big a difference in the power from these two different fuels for daily driving. I am just curious why one would choose 91/92 vs 87 for daily driving?
