145EBA96-6613-4304-99D6-5C5267CB28A1.jpg I have the 400xdr and I love it. I run APRS in on one band and the other I run rpts, simplex, and I really enjoy the wires x system fusion. The AMS is very good.

Awesome, I had initially been leaning that way but saw the 5100 and figured I'd get some opinions. That's a similar programming to what I would do with APRS on one side and simplex on the other.

I went back and forth. I was swayed by an Elmer in my area who had done several different digital modes.

If your serious about APRS I would stick with the 400 or the Kenwood 710 from what I have read. I recall reading that the ICOMs do not directly connect with the APRS system? it was more of a similar system but ICOM specific... dont quote me on it, but definitely do some research before pulling the trigger on it. I was looking at their 4100 but ended up with the Yaesu 100dr, which I like alot, but it is only a single band at a time radio.

Also if you run a tablet, similar to @Paris0514 photo and you want to connect your radio to it, you may want too look further into the Kenwood 710. I have been looking into a solution to connect my 100dr with APRS droid on a tablet... but haven't come up with a good solution yet. The 400 could be better though... For my use the 100dr works fine- I dont need to constantly send out APRS packets, and it has a "dual-watch" feature that allows me to monitor two channels. If I were to do it again and had more cash I would likely go with the Kenwood 710.

Awesome, thanks for the good info. From what I read the 400 has some decent integration for APRS with a tablet but I'll do some more digging.

Thanks for the info on the Kenwood -- our work mobile/portable are Kenwoods and they're super solid. I'll do some looking into that 710 as well!

Where is everyone mounting their Cobra 75WXST handheld receiver at? Or anyone mount their receiver up on the dash somewhere? Show me some pictures please

Edit: prefer 2nd Gen so I have a good comparison idea

Do a search in this thread or in "CB Specifics". There are plenty of installs.

Na CB is still super useful for road trips, local info, trail work... around here the logging companies are on Ch 1 calling out as they come around corners on single lane roads and such so it's even a useful safety tool...

I agree it's a useful tool, but so is a fax machine. There is just better technology out there.

Well when the logging companies and every hillbilly on the interstate switches to APRS then we can revisit this discussion!

I prefer HAM but honestly the CB is more useful for traveling, IMO.

Meh. Theirs other options. I like GMRS and ham. Not much of citizen band do I enjoy. In a group and it seems to be hardly anyone has them set up right.
