2k would be the stuff that requires a respirator, right? They sell that too. EDIT: went and looked, it is 2k SprayMax urethane clear that they sell.

My secondary plan is some light gray uv-stable bedliner to match my wheels, on the flares and lower body for a two-tone look.

 

I buy my materials at a local automotive paint jobber. The only reason I'd suggest the SprayMax aerosolized clear is that I don't know what equipment @BadDNA has. If he has a HVLP spray gun and a compressor big enough to handle it, then go with a quart of clear for the flares. Also use disposable water filter "bombs" at the spray gun.

All paint requires proper PPE - respirator is a must with a new set of correct filters regardless if 1k or 2k (catalyze D). I also wear Tyvek coveralls when painting a larger area.

 

That's another option too (quarts from a local shop). I don't have any fancy gear, just a cheap hvlp gun that came with my compressor and very little experience with it, compared to years of rattle canning stuff of all shapes and sizes.

Napa sells the same stuff Sherwin Williams Automotive sells. Give them your paint code and you can get a quart or however much of the color matched paint. Everything is measured in weight as well

 

A quart should do the flares, right? Adhesion promoter and primer are fine from rattle cans, right?

 

The primer will be, thats how we use to do it. Quart will be plenty, you will dedinitely have left over paint from a quart jug as you mix it with hardener I believe. I cant remember iff the top of my head if their stuff was with hardener or reducer

 

well im ordering my wheels! getting the black and grey pro comps! now to figure out tires/size/brand/type. I love my st maxx's but kinda want something lighter since the wheels are gonna be about 5lbs heavier each

 

What sizes are you thinking? You going 17” wheels?

 

yup 17s. Currently looking at 265/70/17 and 275/70/17. Thought about 33s but not sure itd be worth it due to towing heavy. Plus I don't want to remove mudflaps or trim

 

Check out 255/75R17 as well. It’s the wrangler rubicon stock tire size so there’s a few AT options for it. The StMaxx actually comes in a C load in that size. I’m kind of looking at it for my next set since it’s more of a 32” tall versus the 265/70R17 and you’ll probably get better MPG compared to the 265s

 

Anybody know which lug nuts I need? lol never bought wheels before

 

I ran 265/75/16 duratracs for 4 years. The size was good for a mix of towing and some off roading. No rubbing issues and they didn’t feel like they robbed power towing my dads boat.

 

thats the size i have now but for st maxxs i think they are like 55lbs each. but now im going to a 17 inch wheel and by all means i can feel the difference in stopping/accelerating vs the much lighter stock setup. Stock tires i think were like 33lbs each.

 

Yea I definitely noticed a difference when I jumped up to 255 st Maxx.. I think it was more of the tire size vs the weight increase that feels like it slows me down.

 

Yea rotational force will do that. Going to my Mastercraft MXT's 35x12.5x17 they weigh 1lb more each than my old General Grabber AT2's in a 33x12.5x5x17 but definitely more power loss due to rotational forces

 

so I should probably stick with a 32 then
