    I think the winch will need to be wired directly to the battery won't it?

    Shouldn't matter as long as the wire gauge is correct for the load. Plus if your running a blue sea, it'll stay a lot cleaner in the cab as it's not a sealed unit.

    According to the Smittybuilt X20 12k manual, a 11250lb pull will demand 332 amps. The switch I have is 350 amps constant and 600 amps for 5 min. Might be safer to get the HD switch 500 amp constant or abandon the switch for the winch.

    I like the idea of the cab as I will not have to open the hood to engage the jumpers or winch(s). Just not sure if I should introduce such mainlines into the cab. Although, If I have an accident that causes a short in the cab, I probably be a real mess and it wont matter.

    Yeah definitely run the winch straight to the battery. Last thing is you need something to overload/catch fire. Its happened before

    Nothing too exciting... maybe a little rust

    I have mine tied directly to the battery but only hook up the positive side if I am going out wheeling, the rest of the time I keep it disconnected so it won't short out in a wreck. Only take a couple minutes, no more a hassle than airing down.

    It would take some big leads to run that many amps to the cab.

    On my TJM there was a "kill" switch installed on the power cable. I had mine mounted right by the winch so if I needed to use it, I just had to flip the switch, and power was on.

    Additionally, I kept the wireless remote in the sunglass holder in the cabin and could use that just as easily as hard mounted buttons in the dash. But with the wireless, I could also control it from anywhere else within like 50 ft. Of course, if that failed I also had the wired remote in the vehicle, but I never once used it.

    Long story short, in my opinion wiring directly to the battery with an isolating switch is the move. Add a wireless remote instead of some sort of wiring to an in-cabin control.

    Friends, does anyone know of a good designated campground within an hour or so (closer the better) from Seattle?

    Preferably one that may have some open spots in June. And trailer access.
