 Ok guys i have a Taco that i am lifting, but now i am in a bit of a pickle on which way i want to go. Should i go 6" on 35 or a 3" with 285? i like to off road and i live around mountains. which would be the best all around choice and the most reliable choice. i want to be able to go anywhere and do anything with the least possible chance of breakage

exactly its more of a money issue, with a 6" lift your ground clearance is still going to be the same a 3" lift, your just going to have bigger tires.

    just a couple comfort items.
If you go 35s throw in the cost of re gearing, especially since you live in the mountains.

Hmmm. well i already have a procomp 6" lift just waiting to be put on. so if stick with my 6" it will be as reliable as a truck with a 3" and the stock suspension? of course after i get it regeared

Correct....for the most part. The difference in 33-35" tires is about 1-2" depending on what tire you go with and how 'true' they measure.

Additionally, the increased tire size will mean:
    -increase vehicle wt
    -decreased gas milage
    -need for regearing of diffs
-increased cost for the actual tires
-wheels may also have increased cost (there aren't too many thin profiled tires in the 35" flavor
-alignment problems/inconvienences (many shops have limit on what tire size they are able to do. Example - the shop down the street from me can only align tires up to 33's. So I need to go across town to get down when needed.)
-lastly, the need for a larger, more expensive, lift kit.

I can see if your Yota was going to be trail dedicated...otherwise KISS.
    I hope this helps.

also it looks like there is enough clearance in that pic for a truck thats 3 inches lower to clear.

Krookz - My 3" will clear the same shit as your 6"...but its a Wrangler.:D

    By the original posters statements:
"i like to off road and i live around mountains. which would be the best all around choice and the most reliable choice. i want to be able to go anywhere and do anything with the least possible chance of breakage".........I don't think that his Yota will be a trail only or even a mostly trail rig. If it were he likely wouldnt even be asking the question.
