I considered that and decided against for a couple of reasons.

I thought that battery tray was a bit too expensive. Plus it forced you to run two smaller capacity Odyssey batteries. I was also concerned with putting that much weight all in that one area. I've read about structural damage on rigs that wheel a lot when there are two batteries in that corner.

I later found that I couldn't have anyway as there isn't enough room between the batteries and the back of the HID projectors when the batteries are turned like that.

I haven't had any issues with structural damage or not having enough power with the smaller batteries, but I am pretty bummed that I can't run HID's. I was looking at getting some until I realized they wouldn't fit.

If only I had front suspension to complete the lift haha

Gotta pick up my Relentless bumper and sliders by the end of the month down in SoCal and weld them up - then I'll lift it.

Really would like to take my 5-lug down there. Unfortunately getting the title sorted out, registering it, and insuring it will be nightmare. I only have a bill of sale.

I keep hearing stories of those rapidly declining in load holding ability and height. Hopefully they work well for you

I did a CarFax and everything it's clean. The owner's story lines up with the public records on the truck, but he lost the title. Has $200 in DMV backfees. Once I get the smog certificate and drop by a title place I don't see it being a huge problem to get a CA Bonded title.

Part out .... do i hear seagulls circling..

First thing I learned the hard way at 17 yrs old. Dont put money into anything you do not own. House, car, bike, strippers.

The cops dont care how much money and or time you have vested. Bill of sale doesnt prove ownership to them. I.E 13k in a bike and you want to show it. Pedal bike cops run the numbers and your up shit creek.

    Work smarter not harder man.

The guy was selling it as a parts truck I don't think he was intending whoever was going to buy it to register it. I'll see what happens, if I can't get a title on it big deal it was $600 I'll follow through my original plan of chopping up the frame and turning it into a trailer.

I just would feel bad doing that to a perfectly good truck. A part out at this point would be pretty bad considering it has half a million miles. I looked into getting a bonded title using a bill of sale as evidence and it doesn't look too bad.

Either way I get to practice body work and engine work. Who knows if I end up rebuilding the 5VZ I might put it in my truck.

At the end of the day, it's still a fun project. Hell might even turn it into a rock crawler. Possibilities are endless.

I understand i built a complete 82. I couldn't even use it as a trail only rig. It was hot 6 years before i got it. Lost a 1kkk $ and will never get it back.

My point was make sure its clean and clear in your name. Then choose your build, vs building and getting it impounded as a whole. I know cali f.s requires street legal trucks or the " no atv sign" push your luck pay up.

If you rebuild the motor and suspension the get it repoed. Someone makea pennies on the dollar off your fuck up.

How do you think tundra coil overs landed in a glass case....

Could have built a tube frame buggy for less $.

Oh well, it's my mistake now. Gotta own up to it. Luckily it comes out as clean and it was registered up until last year - just had a clogged EGR valve and wouldn't pass SMOG which is why the owner stopped driving it. CarFax doesn't show any liens or anything suspicious.

Plan is to get a statement of facts filled out, have a DMV inspection done, get a surety bond from a broker, and apply for a CA Bonded Title.

I have about $800 in it so far including the cost of the truck. Not a huge fuck up yet. I don't plan on doing anything major until I have the title in my name. I've just been cleaning it up, bought some used parts from the yard to make it bearable like carpet, trim, a new steering wheel, and that's it.

I had a big positive post but the intetnet refreshed. Slapping me with chocolate covered truffles, sprinkled with sea salt... lol Your cost doesnt matter to the law man, or what you vested. The last doc owner has 30 days to reclaim the property, if he differs or disputes from the b.o.s. 800$ to me is alot of money when you work for it tp just say oh well, Especially in cali. I have come and gone from that state. . Good luck, grab a book instead of google.
In the mean time , ...
Im crass but no ill intentions ment, keep up the thirst man . Try and quench it with your own rescources though. You have options and hands on examples close by. Vs someone who is 380 miles from the nearest car quest and is stuck with dial up and no insite. @BartMaster1234

It may be clean and clear, its the part where you get it in your name is where the trouble might ly. It might, or might not, take long to get the title under your name or you might not get it at all because of some paperwork fat fingering. Thats the point we trying to hammer out to you.

I have a rav4 sitting at my dads house, can't get title. Good thing i didn't blow money on a new motor and transmission.

    @BartMaster1234

When I moved out there I registered my little Kia Rio without having the title. They gave me a something called a goldenrod registration...something like that. I did not have the title on hand at the time and didn't think it would matter. IIRC they told me I could register it but I wouldn't be able to sell it.

Fast forward five years and I wanted to sell that hot rod. Fortunately I was able to get a title from MA very quickly for $30 and easily sort it out.

Good luck brother man. Keep it up!
