Nice! I finished my fish finder install yesterday. Did the thru-hull Hobie kit. Yak is pretty much done...just waiting on the deck mat to come in.

Do you have to drill your own holes for the wires or is the PA already done from factory?

Ugg getting ready for fishing and now I have to install a tranny cooler before I even think about towing again. Installed the scangauge and my trans temp got up to 240 degrees going up the mountain.

Nope. They didn't have a OR with tow package on the lot. I wanted MGM so I just added a curt hitch and never thought about the trans cooler. When I got out of the truck to air down after driving up the mountain a few weeks back I noticed a lot of heat coming off the engine. I have added a lot of extra weight this year so figured it was time to check on tranny temps. I hope I haven't cooked it to bad over the year's. My boat doesn't weigh much but my favorite lake is way up the mountain.

My trans temp light has never come on and I change tranny fluid every other year as safeguard. I read on TW that trans temp light doesn't come on until 305 which is way hotter than i ever want to be.

This is what happens when you get tired of fishing with your friend who doesn't know sizes.

Have not. The reviews seem alright. I've been using Suffix for years and I've been happy with it. My grandfather swore by Power Pro and I ended up with a pretty decent stock of it.

Maybe separate them into jars and put them in a small canvas bag?

The weights should be self explanatory the hooks on the other hand I wouldn't be able to tell you the exact size but be pretty close.

You haven't met my fishing buddy...

And I may have just gotten a new label maker in my quest to finally get all this crap organized and got out of hand.

But seriously, I don't really expect him to know hook sizes. Hell I'm with you. If it wasn't my box I'd be able to guess pretty close, but I wouldn't know for sure either.

I got him into surf fishing with me a few years ago, and he's come along pretty well. He's learning to read the beach now and find the holes and breaks in the sand bar, which is a great help when I want to just drive and "see the sights" if you know what I mean. :D

I'm still learning to read the surf. Yeah I get distracted by the beauty of the beach easily as well. I miss bites sometimes because of the sites to see.

YES. I used to ONLY use power pro until I found KastKing. It's all I use now (minus some spooled with big game mono). I have not had an issues with breaking strength. It holds up well for the price. Hop on ebay (its cheaper than Amazon to buy outright) and watch the auctions, I got 1094 yards of 20lb for $24 from one auction and 400 yards of 50lb for $9. Two cons about it, 1. the color fades pretty quick. You'll start off with a nice deep blue color or whatever and after a few trips its a nice Carolina blue (BOOO go State). 2. Shipping from the KastKing distributor takes about a week to two weeks so plan ahead. It's defiantly worth the money though. I buy about 1500-2000 yards a year to spool (most) everything. Take the money you save from buying power pro and invest it in tackle.

It's definitely an art form. I'm no master at it, but I can do it well enough to find some fish. I usually hit the beach at low tide and cruise, looking for holes, breaks, and troughs if I'm not in a hurry. If I'm not there for long, and I don't have time to wait on the tides, I just look for a spot where the sandbar isn't too far out to cast over, and just see what I can find. Some days I get lucky, some days I just get a tan.

Same. I think that's the universal procedure for buying hooks.

I may have to look into this. I'm still running mono on all my saltwater stuff. I always worry about sand abrasion with braid though, that's why I've never switched.

I've never had an issue with braid fishing from a kayak or the surf with it. I just make sure to rinse all my gear and line off thoroughly after a weekend of fishing. On the next outing I trim off about 15 feet when I tie up, just as a precaution.

I use braid on everything to get more capacity. If I need stretch injust use it as a backer for mono. Same for techniques with flouro. I'm not brand specific on line but if I try one and it fails more or I have more issues out of it I don't buy that brand anymore.

Don't laugh (got laughed at real hard one time I came home after a weekend trip and the ex caught me bringing them into the bathroom with me ), but I shower with my rods after I get back from the beach, especially if I've been wading with them or if it's been a day with real heavy spray. Then they get oiled and put away. Probably why I've got some old Silstar reels that still work flawlessly. Those are the loaners.

But that makes me feel a little better about trying it. Maybe I'll pick up a spool whenever I bite the bullet and pick up a new rod and reel.

Yeah, that's why I've thought about it. I had a big sting ray almost spool me last year. Fought with the damn thing for like 45 minutes, walked an 1/8 mile up and down the beach from the truck a few times, and had a few spectators by the time I was done. Like reeling in a spare tire full of sand.
