First of all, you’re here to see what you want to see.
You’re ‘liking’ every single post that even remotely supports your view, and disagreeing with the rest.

Second of all, I clicked on your link and this was the Very first result

I mean, I can see your market for Tacomas is pretty sparse, but jeez man.

a 2wd single cab...exact same thing as my truck pretty much haha

Also, isnt that the point of "liking". Im not gonna like things that say I should keep it because I do not have the need or want to have 2 trucks. Also I would have to sell this one to have money to buy something that I want.

So, your ad said you've only owned the truck for 2yrs/20,000miles. Do you know the maintenance history? How much did you pay for it?

Your truck is worth $5k, or less.

This is assuming you haven't replaced any parts, I didn't read through each page:

    Mechanic installed:

You're looking at $2000-3000 for a transmission depending on region and mileage, $3500-$4500 for a new motor, same dependencies.

If you haven't done clutch in a while, $1200. If you haven't done shocks front and back in a while, $900. If you need coils, add $175 aftermarket to that cost. If you need new leaf packs, add parts alone at $450 for aftermarket, ~$350 labor depending on the shop. Hoses, A/C or alternator, add miscellaneous $300-$500 repairs here and there using non-OEM parts to keep the cost down. Wheel hubs? $600 installed.

If you add that up, worst case scenario of engine and transmission only at the very cheapest price you can get, you're at $10,500.

Now add in the fact that is has 300k miles of misc. dings, dents, rattles, scratches and general wear/stress, and you should see why it's going to be worth $5k or less. You're being unnecessarily greedy and hopeful for an ignorant buyer to cheat out of money if you think anything less.

    * it doesn't need to have a bad engine, people will want the lower price for assurance of when it does go bad sooner rather than later (because, 300k miles, duh)
    * it doesn't need to have a bad transmission or signs of it, people want the same assurance (some trannys go 400k, some take a dump at 120k)
    * you can throw in all evidence of misc. repairs besides the motor and tranny, people won't care: it has 300k miles

The guy who traded it in to the car lot I got it from also bought it from them and they assured me he was very meticulous with maintenance, which is how you get a vehicle to have this many miles run and drive super well as it does. Regardless of this I still had them change every fluid and put in a new battery. They said everything looked VERY good. I paid 9k for it before all the dealership fees. Mind you they must have thrown on whatever steelies they had with undersized tires. So I spent $400 getting the alloy wheels and $600 for tires, then add on a $1k color matched shell that I traveled to Salt Lake to even find. Granted I know you don't get that out of a vehicle, which is why I'm still only selling it for what I paid.

Since most interested buyers will have to finance, there isn't a bank or CU out there that will loan 1/2 that with those miles. Most people don't have 8K or more to spend on a high mileage truck so they go loan shopping and find out $4500 is about all they MAY be able to borrow. All a dealer is going to do is flip it right over to an auction, they want nothing to do with a 1/3 of a million mile vehicle, if it has an expensive breakdown, they have lost every word of mouth customer the buyer can tell abou the screwing he got. Hoopty Joe OTOH can buy at auction and sell it because his buyers are in another market entirely then a new car dealer. Bad credit, no money down, buy here pay here customers all the way.

My wife works in the loan department at a small bank. She said they lend up to 80% of NADA value, no age or milage limit. She did however say the interest rate on something with that many miles would be pretty high.

Seems a bit optimistic to buy at a dealer, drive it for two years, and then expect to sell it for what you paid for it. If you have to sell it, then keep dropping the price. You may have paid too much for it when you bought it, and that can be hard to accept.

Best option imo, would be to keep it and try to hit 500,000 miles.

Well, does seem a might high. The Tacoma is the champ for resale value though, it is number 1. A couple of years ago I saw a Jeep at a used car lot that I wanted to look at so pulled into an empty corner spot on the front row where they keep their best cars. Within minutes there was a traffic jam at the busy intersection with people pulling in to buy my Tacoma. It was hilarious. And real! The manager/owner just looked at me and said he would make me a good deal on the Jeep. Sorry fella, any Jeeps I buy I buy straight up, the Taco does not trade for a Jeep.

Rarely will you ever get your money back on add on's,that's why almost everyone here takes them off before they sell.

That would be the "clean retail" value. You're not a dealer, so you can't use retail price to justify your price.

You're missing a federally mandated piece of safety equipment that belongs on the vehicle.

This is the killer. That averages out to 30k a year. Most people look for 10-12k average annually when buying used.

Again, you're referencing retail prices. What's that $7700 value hidden at the top of the screen shot? That's probably more inline with an accurate price.

Of course "they" assured you he was meticulous, they had you as an interested buyer and said what they could for you to buy. Did it come with a folder with all the maintenance records? You'd need a folder to hold all those records since the glove box wouldn't be big enough to hold them all. If the previous owner was how they claim, surely they could provide any and all records of service they performed on the truck to put prospective buyers minds at ease.

So you paid $9k +T&L from a dealer, added 20k to the odometer, used it for 2yrs, and expect to turn around and sell it for the same price? o_O Granted the Tacoma is a desirable truck and retains value, it's not that desirable or equitable in the condition yours is in.

As others have said, you'd need someone with a pocket full of cash to sell your truck to as no lender would approve someone to purchase an 11yr old truck with 300k+ miles. If you can provide assurance in the form of documented service history, that can help your price, but without it, that leaves a lot of unknowns and worst case scenarios to be assumed.

IMO, $5k would be too low for me to sell if it where mine, and realistically $7-8k range would possibly help get someone to at least come look at it and make an offer. Even here in the Seattle area, where the Tacoma tax is insane, you'd be hard pressed to get more than $7-8k for it.

Here are a few comparisons in my area and what the sellers are asking for price wise.

This is the closest in comparison, but still shy by 100k miles.

Im not basing it off of clean retail, I'm after 9k for the pickup. The 7,700 "hidden" value is ROUGH trade in...this pickup is not rough and its a private party sale, not a trade in. Thanks on the realistic price point tho. I sold the shell last night so now Im willing to drop the price some...but here $5k is way too low...I sold my 95 single cab 4x4 tacoma with 210k miles for that.
