What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

tried to raise the rear end of the truck by jacking it up under the rear diff, no go. It kept going up but the body of the truck wasn't moving.

 

If you get the Dakar’s don’t expect to put a rear tire carrier on it. I did and they flattened right out and I had just put them on the truck with the add a leaf .They can not handle that much weight and you will have to go custom like I am having to do with the the alcans. The Dakar’s did ride much better that my stock ones but can’t handle the extra weight, Alcan can build them however you need them! I have ordered 1000 pound over stock springs they should do the trick especially when fully loaded with all my crap to go hit the trails!

 

Watch TPS readings with a scanner. See if their unusual.

 

Damn, not gonna be carrying 1000lbs every day, occasional camping or fishing here. Who did you go to for custom leaf springs?

Hell of a stutter, and it wasn't even a bad one. Ignore the video quality. My phone has had it's fair share of drops.

 

Whats the company that cistom males leaf springs? Alcan or is it deaver? My bro in law is looking for some for his sas'd runner

Can you give me a ballpark price on your custom springs?

 

I got 600lbs constant weight over stock. Was ~$700 with new u-bolts, which you'll definitely need. Plus shipping.

The one thing to note - some trucks need the rear axle moved forward ~1/2 - 3/4" if you're putting on larger tires (33's). If you need that, you need to tell Alcan to move the center pin forward 3/4" when you order, otherwise they build it with the stock positioning.

You can get a sense of whether you need this by looking at your wheel alignment in the well closely to determine it's "centered-ness." You'll see some pics of what I found here.

My Alcans were around 700 with u bolts also for 250# over stock.
I went and picked them up.

Anyone on here running Bilstein 4600 shocks on their Taco that can comment on how they ride. My Land Cruiser is in need of front shocks in a pretty bad way and I figured I'd just replace all four with 4600s since it is stock height anyway.

 

I had them on my 04 when I first got it a couple years ago, ran them for maybe 6 months before switching out my suspension for the 1st time. They were the original shocks but only had 25k miles on them, and my first several wheeling trips were with them on. They rode well for what they were, if I we're only looking to stay stock I would've stuck with those.

 

Cool, I believe they use the same style shock for the OEM TRD versions. I originally was going to see about getting the King stock replacements for the cruiser but really for a daily they seem overkill and then I have another set of shocks that need to be rebuilt every so often haha. The Billies on the other hand will be under like no pressure on the cruiser cause all of its shocks are just shocks, completely independent of the springs so they should last just fine.

my 95 has them pretty sure. They aren't bad around town really. Dirt is okay but any big bumps and they are shit. But not horrible.
