My SR5 is a gen 2, the main reason I like minimal options is that I always customize my trucks lift tires bumpers lockers etc. all the electronic options are nice but more to go wrong.

I almost bought an SR5 as this will be my 13yr old's truck in 3 years but I was able to get a significant amount of features for the extra $2k I spent and the resale of the truck should cover the extra. The SR5 I was looking at was $32k OTD and the TRD OR was $34.2 OTD but the MSRP's were $5k apart.

I don’t miss the locker(s) or atrac. This truck is more than capable in 4x4 mode, barring severe wheeling. The scary part is being able to accomplish everything I ever tried at Hungry Valley with the ‘08/‘12. And that’s with the OEM firestone kicks. I’m probably going with Cooper AT3’s eventually. Right now, all the extra coins are going towards my hot saws for this summer’s competitions, and I can’t wait for the SR5 to carry the Huskies up north. Digging the 3rd Gen SR5 the most.

I've got the dbcb version. I agree. Bigger engine, 4x4, and highest towing capacity. That's the way to do it. I knew if I wanted to offroad I'd be redoing the suspension anyway.

The only thing I would have changed is the e-locker if I could.

I'm still curious what the actual percentages are between trim levels. Three years in, I still almost never see SR5's or below. Even the yard guys and pool cleaner trucks are almost all TRD around here. It's odd.

Don't they all share the same engine/transmission? Assuming V6. That is where most of the complaints lie, nothing to do with the TRD models. And, hardly anyone has a Limited on this forum that is why you never really hear about issues with them I am guessing.

I dig the SR/SR5 trucks. Simplicity is good.

They share the same engine and transmission yes, but they actually should offer a V-8 option on the OR since they (OR owners) are always complaining about the lack of power and how they need a tune too.

But rear diff is different, the entire brake electronics and booster is different and cost way more $$1k's to replace and they usually lift them, put on oversize E rated tires so they may very well need more power or as I mentioned, a V-8 option. TOYOTA should read TW postings lol!

On the flip coin, most non TW members who own SR-SR5's use their trucks as trucks or DD so they have less issues and are happy with their easy on $$ purchase. And if they do mod, they have a lower starting price and get to add the tires/wheels of their choice.
But once you go down that rabbit hole, there's no turning back!

SR5 is a different type of package than the TRD packages. So SR5 is an appearance package, color matched fenders, power lock, power window, sliding rear window, chrome bumper rear. The TRD packages are suspension performance packages with various accessories. Sport comes with LSD, off road comes with locker, pro has a bunch of settings that the computer controls throttle and brake for you so you don't need to control it yourself.

Also prior to the 3rd gen. If you wanted the higher stance you had to get the prerunner package for the upgraded suspension and higher ride height. If you got just a plain truck or just the SR5 it sat much lower and many did not like that. So I assume that if you were getting the prerunner package many opted for the TRD packages as well since they were already dropping the extra $ for that initial prerunner. Where as now the 3rd gens don't have the regular option that sits lower. Even a base model sits as tall as the TRD.

I'm pretty happy with my SR5 apart from the powertrain. If they put a V8 in the OR I definitely would have saved up or traded in for one by now.

Totally pointless, but the 5 year old playing with hot wheels inside of me still thinks its cool.

What's the weight difference between the 3.5 and say the 4.6? Eats up even more into the scanty payload. Plus unbalances the truck even more. I'd just as soon install a supercharger, when they become available.

The SR5's on dealer lots around my area are priced so close to TRD's that it doesn't make sense to buy them. Sometimes they're priced even more than TRD's! Dealers order them loaded up to the gills apparently.

I bought my 2018 SR5 because it was 4k less than the TRD Truck I went to look at. I decided I didn't need all the extra crap. More stuff to fail for me. I also still own an '08 4wd Access Cab SR5 with 180k on it.

Both 2017 SR and SR5 come with Standard LSD. Same goes for 2018
Only mechanical difference between 2017 SR5 and Sport is "sport-tuned suspension" for few more $$$
