My family has had the opposite experience, which added to my original bias when I bought the 2nd Frontier. My parents had 3-4 hardbody 4x4s, a '94 Pathfinder 4x4, and a '04 Armada that is has gone through like 3 radiators but is still hauling a full size, over-loaded trailer at nearly 200k miles on occasion. Sister has a '06 Pathfinder and has been lucky enough to pass 100k miles without the dreaded coolant issue, my '02 XE Frontier is still alive with my bro in law, pushing 200k miles and has only gone through a clutch and currently a head gasket; and then there's my '07 (RIP). Oh, I also had a '95 Altima that I bought off a dude that slammed it into a guard rail. I changed a rear door on it and put a new clutch in it. Occasionally the speedo would drop to 0 but I drove it to over 200k miles without any issues either.

My point being I've personally had positive experiences with Nissan's, I don't think they're garbage cars outside of the very well known issues. I'll concede that they don't make them like they used to, and that they're still no Yotas in terms of overall quality and reliability, but they're hardly trash cars if you take care of them -- unlike a Toyota which Top Gear has proved you can totally abuse and still drive it away :).

Ill be getting a frontier my next truck. Financially its the best decision buying new or used . No doubt its dependable. Being on a tacoma website obviously people are going to lean to saying a tacoma is best. Perfect example im looking at a 2016 or 2017 longbed with under 20k miles for 21-25k for frontier. Same options for a tacoma is touching 30+ while ill agree tacoma looks better the tacoma isnt anymore dependable. Ive had mine for 4 years now i can't say its been a amazing truck. A single cab is what i could afford at the time so im driving around a stoneage truck with no options im ready to have creature comforts again. In which the tacoma is too much money

The only Frontier that interests me is the S model with manual transmission for under 20 g's. I love the size, love that it's a manual, love that it's bomb proof. Hopefully Nissan doesn't follow Toyota and kill off their manuals in 4cyl 2wd models.

My brother bought a Frontier, nice little truck but I wouldn't buy one for creature comforts, the interior has not changed since like 05 and it shows.

It actually had a slight facelift inside and out around 2010 IIRC.

I hate that simple is dying out. I don't mind offering all the creature comforts but doing away with simple and forcing me to buy creature comforts I don't want is aggravating. I hate that Toyota ruined the SR by doing away with the manual and making TSS standard on any car you buy they make.

I dont hate the interior on the nissan is it a little dated yea it is but for me its a work truck i put 25k on a year. But it has everything i want backup cam, xm radio, cruise, heated seats and a center console. All which are comparable with the tacoma just for alot less money with the nissan. I dont honestly want some fancy interior afterall its a truck. It has a much more comfortable drivers seat then any tacoma ive sat in.

I can totally understand the money part. I was lucky that the dealer who got mine pulled form another dealer...It came with Convenience package and tow package. I plan on keeping it forever and a day. Didn't want to much tech in it...the more simple it is the better 15 years form now. I'm not really a new vehicle person. Before this truck I had an 02 Ranger that was hit and totaled (distracted driver)...figured if I was ever going to buy new this was the time. I did research the Frontier and wasn't convinced at the time.

No long bed option in the sr which is a must for me so that steps the price up $35800 msrp

Before I got my Tacoma I had to rent a truck to haul some things 240 round trip. I ended up renting a 2016 Frontier double cab. Comparing the 2 I felt the frontier drove smoother and the seating position was more comfortable. My 2017 Tacoma rides more like a truck and overall looks and is more updated. The frontiers interior just seemed dated and cheap. I didn’t like the dash construction at all.

A Frontier SV is more comparable feature wise to an SR5.

    Go Tacoma.
I was looking at the Tacoma, Ridgeline and Frontier.
I liked the look of the Frontier but was scared off by Nissan's recent reliability issues. I know they make great motors but I keep hearing about tranny problems and Nissan being jerks about replacing the bad transmissions. I passed on the Frontier.
The Ridgeline is nice but I wanted a truck.
I wont waste my time with the GM or Chrysler products. The new Ranger doesn't impress me either.

Another reason to by a Tacoma is that you get to be apart of Tacoma World.

Wonder why Nissan doesn't put the new 100,000 mile warranty on the Frontier they have on the Titans?

If you want a great utilty truck buy the Nissan.

If you want a truck that thinks it's a car, buy the Toyota.
