Warranty Enhancement...Propeller Shaft

I just bought 3

$26 5-213x U-Joint Kit 1330 Series (OSR)

5-213x spicer u joints from rock auto for 13$ each

 

Santa Cruz said my 2011 EC Off Road was not on the enhancement, and I haven't received a letter. If it was on the list, they want $125 to check the shaft, no cost if it needs it. I bought it late 2011.

I took the attitude 'expect nothing and I won't be disappointed'. That said, I am encouraged for you. Idk why it would matter who did the work as long as they're a legit garage and sent all required documentation

 

Not trying to be hope killer but I replaced my 3 leaf packs with some 2015s that someone took off their truck but of course I'm not a legit repair center so I got shafted on the leafs as far as reimbursement so my only recourse would be bring the truck in and let them replace them again just to make them spend their money since officially the leafs have not been replaced recallwise even tho they are same 4 leaf packs as the recall ones are.....not that spiteful nor do I want dealerships touching my truck so I just think of them as $200 Dakars and moved on. Not sure if regular cabs were involved in this driveshaft recall since carrier not involved. I have about 180k miles on the truck and did replace my u-joints at about 150k miles with oems and called it good. Again, were not replaced by Toyota so I won't be wasting my time with any of this recall either...if even included. Good luck to the rest of you impacted by this.

 

I wouldn’t expect them to honor anything if you diyed it unless you are a certified tech working out of a certified shop but I took mine to a reputable shop so It would be cool for them to Honor it

 

Just received my reimbursement check from Toyota. Took about 4 weeks from the time I send in the paperwork.

Replaced my 3 U-Joints and the Center Bearing back in 2015. I had receipt for shop labor but not the parts I bought myself. Toyota paid for the labor of $325 but no go on parts without receipts. Total of parts was around $100 so I am satisfied on getting the $ back.

If they really cared about their money they could have at least had me go to a dealer and see the correct parts in the correct position on the truck and paid me back the $200 I had to spend to have decent leafs vs. me bringing it in and having them fork out $1500 worth of their time and parts. I could still do that I suppose if I feel the need for some more new leafs since that recall hasn't been checked off for my truck as being done. I guess them assuming it couldn't be done correctly by me is more realistic than me assuming they sold it with correct parts in 2008 after having a known issue since 2005 right? They failed to have right parts on it from the factory and I am the one that put the right parts on it the right way after the fact for them so....so much for certifications or not.

 

Got my check from Toyota today. They paid for 100% of the costs. I got my u joints replaced at a local garage.

 

This wasn't my experience. At least for rear U-joint that was locked up. I have billies all around at 2.75 and tsb rears with AAL. Drove in with clicking sound, took test ride with tech, boom - U-joint replaced under warranty .2010 DCLB with 137k

 

But it’s federal law you can work on your own vehicle without voiding the warranty. Magnuson-Moss Warranty act.....

true I still think about contacting corporate but it just seems like a lot of work to get 300 bucks back

 

I did this on my 07 DCSB Sport in 2015 but since sold the truck.
Any chance this covers my situation?

 

Mine was about $500, and i have thoroughly confused the ever living hell out of the Customer Service team. I diagnosed my driveshaft, and removed the driveshaft and took it into a shop to replace the u joints, carrier bearing, and check balance etc on it. Toyota keeps on calling the driveshaft shop, and the driveshaft shop can only say they did X work, not why they did it, due to the fact i was a walk in 2 years ago to a mom and pop driveline shop.....

 

I sent mine in I got my fingers cross.

 

..........and the ujoints were changed by a shop with supposed certified techs........first time with moog serviceable ones that vibrated like shit from the get go, took it back and had them take that shit out and paid them the difference for oem ujoints. Mysteriously those have been just fine. Go figure. I did change my own a few times in the 82 that had over 600k miles on it and never had any vibe issues or otherwise besides just wear. Certified schmertified. Their highhorse about certified or not is a complete joke in light of how many people have so many issues with factory installed parts and/or warranty work being done a dukieships. Comical shit...........

 

Brought my 2010 Tacoma in for the rearend recall work today and asked to have them look at what I thought was a transmission issue. Felt like the tranny was straining and not shifting into overdrive, but tacometer/rpm's were fine. Dealer looked and performed a diagnositic and said ujoints were fine but vibration was a bed driveshaft? I decided to do some research and found this thread, called dealer and asked if they were aware of extended warranty/recall of zh2 propshaft ujoinst driveshaft. They stated that ujoints are fine and they don't replace or repair driveshafts?? I politely asked them to look into this a little deeper and provided them the the extended warranty which states it is good until April 2019. I have a hard time believing the driveshaft is damaged, no accidents, no offroad, only 97k miles, and transmission is shifting perfect and no slippage or banging. Having just replaced a snapped driveshaft in my silverado 2500hd I did myself in about 1.5hrs I would think it's a big deal to replace a tacoma rear driveshaft. While speaking with the service dept. they did state that the tech said ujoints were ok and something internal must be wrong with driveshaft. If thats the case then wouldn't this fall under the extended warranty ZH2?
