I can’t wait for playoffs. Trash talking about the distant past is lame. Other than a couple of spots in the east and west the stage is basically set. I mean the Leafs and Bruins know they will play each other. May as well get it over with. Should be a good series, TO doesn’t have many of the players from the last time we saw this matchup but I’m going to go ahead and guess the hate won’t take long to form with Marchand matching up against Kadri.

Ottawa and Vancouver will be golfing so you know the trash talk on here will be thick like the poles OZ likes to shine.

Congrats to Ovi. Dude is a machine. A lot of guys saying the 'era-adjusted' that he is the greatest goal-scorer ever. Maybe, I'm not sure. It is really tough to compare today's game to the 80s/90s game. I always thought Mario was the best pure scorer, based on many years w/o much talent. Plus the clutch/grab era etc. I think he was pretty much unstoppable offensively. Ovi scored a lot from the left circle and isn't a great 1 on 1 guy unless he's in shooting range. But all that being said, I won't really argue it much. I respect his ability to lazer shots in, at will. He gets open, he can shoot w/ basically no room available. Funny how the media flip-flops on the guy though. After the last 2 playoff exits, NHL radio saying blow the team up, you gotta move Ovi out as he isn't going to help Caps win the Cup. Now he's greatest goal-scorer of all-time. Side not: I always liked his physical game too (unrelated to scoring).

 

As long as I'm breathing when the Leafs win the cup I will come to this thread to never let it down

 

The problem with saying "era adjusted" if people don't actually go back and watch the games where people would two hand tomahawk you for skating through the neutral zone and when you went into the corner or around the net you had to literally worry about your human well being . These days theres much more protection in place for players and you can't do the things they use to .I would say it's and even match for scoring back then as it is now

 

Yep, I'm with you there, brother. That is how I feel. And I do think goaltending has obviously gotten better, but Mario was ruining Roy, Broduer, Beezer, Richter etc etc, so not exactly super old-school or bad tenders.

 

If the Canucks played a half century with only 5 other team in the league they probably would have won at least one by accident.

 

Yeah you don't see many goalies getting beat 5 hole on wrist shots from the blue line anymore like before Roy came along.

 

That's why I don't count anything before ~`67.

 

Also you give these guys solid wood stick and I guarantee you it would be there same effect .There's a video of Eberle trying to use one and he said he could literally not even shoot the puck lol
