I had a few questions about the tuner. Would a list of all my changes to the exhaust and intake have to be sent it for a map to be created? Or is that something you do yourself on the computer? And how do you get on the list for a Tuner? And what's the cost? Sorry I'm sure it's all been asked already

LOL! You realize ANOTHER long wait is ahead of you AFTER the mail man comes, getting your ECU added to the list of supported systems, right?

It seems like it will be quite a while until this is ready to be rolled out in large numbers. I'll wait till it's all ready.

The ECU technically doesn’t support any mods beyond a cat back without some type of tuning. I basically want to know how unique he can go with the tunes.

He's stated he has full control over everything the ECU controls. I was moreso getting at the fact the ECU only knows of 6 injectors, adding the 7th would require a bit more customization without piggy back.

Adding any additional custom programming, like control of a 7th injector, may not be possible if the ECU ROM(read-only memory) has a limit on the size, 512k, 1024k etc, of the file/tune, it won't fit in the ROM. Changing parameters of how things are controlled within the stock tune won't change the size, where writing additional data to the tune would raise the overall size above what the ROM storage capacity is built into the ECU. Unless you can remove and solder a bigger ROM chip to the ECU, it's limited to a certain size/capacity and the stock tune may be right at that size limit already. If that makes sense.

Can he create a tune to work with the the URD 7th kit? Most likely, but it would still require the urd black box and not soley be controlled by the ECU.

Matt would have a better answer than me for sure.

It will come. He took a bit to get back but was prompt when he had time. Once all this initial dev is done I expect it will be better. You’ll like it when you get it. Been running it now for 3 weeks

Thanks for the positive words. I just have questions about what to do and when. I don't want to make spendy set backs. How do you like it? Any down sides or bugs you see that may get worked out in time?

This is for AT NA engine. I also have a Hypertech inline speedo calibrator so my speedo cluster is correct and not off by X%.

I ran the 87 for a week a lot of street driving and "testing". It ran smooth, shift points were later which was nice. I didn't get great mpg. Normally was 12.5ish or so and got 10.8. Could be more of how I was drivintg "testing" it out. I switched to the 91 tune then drove down to the Mojave Desert and ran the Mojave Road trail. Hit 15.2-15.4 on fill ups. Have not seen that mpg since I added lift tires. Now I have 2/3 of the full skids, sliders, shell etc. I ran roughly 10.8 mpg aired down to 18 psi and mobbing the desert. there is noticablly more power in the 91 tune. Makes it smooth and the drive by wire feel is almost eliminated. Shift points are much later.

Last couple weeks my mpg is back down to 12.8 -13.2 with more city driving. Main thing I have noticed is the later shift points have some shift hang and it takes a few seconds to shift back down. Upside is it keeps it torquy but you find yourself waiting for it to shift back. Of course if you have manual thats a null point but you will still get higher RPM shift points.

Setup if you ECU is present is super easy. Install software, update, grab tun from car. download and send to Matt. It took me about 2 weeks but got back the file and loaded to handhelf. Then you plug in and pick tune. Takes 5-10 minutes to flash the tune you want. If you want to change it just plug in and pick a new tune.

If you decide you want to add a SC later on, Matt stated you can upgrade or get a tune added for the SC. If all goes well I plan to do that.

Mine is an a/t. And supercharged. I HIGHLY recommend a Trd supercharger. They are amazing! I was curious about the shift hang. Sometimes I stomp on it on the freeway up hill and it doesn't go back into 5th for a bit. You're getting good mpg's with all your gear I think. Once you supercharge gas mileage goes down. Probably the bigger injectors. Dumb question- when you download your tune to send the truck is still operable right?

Fun fact. The supercharger only takes 1/2 horsepower to run when not boosting.

    Awesome. I’m supercharged with a 6spd manual
    -a slightly smaller pulley
    -CAI
    - short tube headers/high flow cats
    -3”exhaust from the headers back
Will this fall into the supercharged tune with different pulleys or will I need something different?

Depends what is the pulley size? Ideally I will have a tune for each popular pulley out there.

Also regarding updates and development time, my main dealer and friends at OVTune-PH is taking over all of our Mazda tuning and development to give me more free time for the 4.0
