If it's for the short run, shouse steel building for sure.

Edit: and look into what insurance likes and doesn't like about it, could be you put in some ventilation and boom negated.

It won't be built for the short run as far as quality goes, but the temptation to take the instant equity and get a larger property will definitely be there. I'd likely build a very similar place, since i have zero interest in owning some huge mansion even if i won the lottery. But the same idea on something >35 acres with water frontage since that's when you get better water rights included would be sweet.

And I was looking forward to getting some wild burros and or mustang's to trot around on the land and that won't happen on 5 acres. And more land means I can do what i want without nosy neighbors.

Half a load of reclaimed decking. Not sure exactly where I'll use it, but it'll get used! Much better than going to the dump.

Thinking it would make nice siding if i did the bottom half of the shed in it and then use the pallet wood on the top half.

Digging the single vertical run, maybe do 18" from the ground in some sort of rock. Sure i could find that small amount on the cheap somewhere.

Does running the siding vertically like that affect its ability to shed water? I can picture how water doesnt get in behind it when it is run horizontally, but I cant picture how water doesnt run into the cracks this way. Educate me!

Well it's a shed, so I'm not too worried about it (but it'll be plenty water resistant). Planning on just setting 4x4s, plywood, then wrap it in tyvek and cover that with the siding. It's only going to be three sided... East side will be open.

And i like the look of the vertical stuff where I'd put the larger stuff up first and butt it together, then put a thin strip over the seam. That'll cover it and any imperfections.

But without the strip covering the seam you'd surely get water in there. Although running it horizontal, the water will still collect on the ledges between and run back.

Not for the shed. It'll have a metal roof but that's it.

Dropped off half the load of wood, have a decent pile of disassembled pallets as well.

Marked out the rough septic hole areas.

$5400 for septic tanks, pump, misc supplies. In the end, once it's in, I've saved over half on the septic. Dump trailer will come in real handy, I'll need 3 full loads of sand for the bottom of the leach field, another one or two of gravel.

Freaking cold and windy weather this weekend of course.. I'd like to try and dig the holes but we'll see. If not, I could always set some posts. Could also scrape in the driveway and fill her up with gravel as well.

Any chance of anyone using a tool vest/belt/combo from Atlas46? I am not a fan of tool belts, I have a really nice one thats in like new condition since I never wear it. One of my biggest complaints is probably since I am a bean stalk and dont have much real estate around my waist and most belts only have certain areas you can put pouches.

I've seen the Atlas46 stuff for a while and finally bit the bullet. Of course, I'll have to wait 1-3 weeks since everything I ordered was backordered other than two magnetic patches. The options look pretty sweet, I'll probably be taking one pouch from my belt and using the belt that'll be suspended from the vest. But they are a molle panel styled vest so you can move everything around where its comfortable for you. I liked the tan color they had but black matches my existing bags I'll be using with them so I went with black.

Well i know i should be getting the greenhouse built so it can be ready to start growing, but i haven't been too excited about digging post holes in the rocky ground.

Found some large holes/dens and quick Google search says it could be wyoming ground squirrels which are basically groundhogs.

So greenhouse plan is now 3ft vertical walls with a plate on top to affix metal hoops to. I'll also have maybe three posts down the center so the tops of the hoops will be sturdy. Overall size being 8x24 keeps it under 200sf which is when you need a permit (5-7 week wait).

Trying to decide if it's worth wrapping the inside and outside of the frame so there's a bubble of air in between as a little temperature buffer.

As far as the critters, I'll probably put chain link fence on the floor under the dirt and up the vertical walls. I was planning on doing raised beds anyways.

If you're interested in traveling a bit, check out Scott's cheap flights email list.

Picked up a $312 round trip flight to Kauai in May. :bananadance:
At that price it's a crime not to go.

Not sure how I'll ever get the house done at this rate.
