So I leave for Mexico next month and I have some concerns about the set up. I have created a poll because I need advice. I have a few problems going into this trip and only a few weeks to hammer them out.

1st I want to take two spares but my 6th KO2 is brand new and the tread difference is too much to run it. So should I buy a new KO2 and run 2 new ones on the back then take two used KOs as spares? Or take it as is and hope I need only 1 spare?

2nd I keep hitting my bump stops even with Tacoma’s. New leaf springs (they still suck) I can’t afford to do a full suspension upgrade right now so should I throw on a set of sumo springs or upgrade the rear leaf springs and hope that my front bilsteins can still be adjusted since they have been on for 2 years?

Rock sliders will be welded on before the trip, brakes are getting changed tomorrow and everything else should be good to go. Thanks

Get the springs, if your Spanish is ok, can always find a spare, hopefully, ko2s will last the trip in most conditions.

But the Dakars are going to add a 3 inch lift unloaded which is fine and the Bilsteins should add 2.5 in the front. If after all this time they are still adjustable. How did your run with stick springs at first?

Hey should last they are load E and did great in the Rockies on the last trip just worried to be in the remote desert away from village stuck because of a flat. I could take my own trail patch kit and that saves on the weight too.

Tires are tricky because you never know if you’ll need them, but generally there are tire shops around in the cities (at least in Baja). If your bringing extra fuel and water (or a camp toilet to share with montezuma) you’ll probably want new springs so your not bottoming out all the time. My last time down in my jeep I didn’t even make the border before my sagging rear broke a shock mount

With your 4 banger Reg cab, the Billsteins might be tricky. Your truck is lighter, so you'll get more lift than "advertised". We don't want you wrecking your CV joints in the process. On my 6 cyl access cab, I set them on the 1.75" setting and got 2.5" of lift.

With sliders, topper, and gear you'll be very happy with the Dakars. Before you install the Dakars, disassemble them and remove the second leaf from the bottom. It's a huge (and unnecessary) overload leaf. Removing it will bring the added lift down by 1/2". I wish I had done this to mine. It would have been so easy to do, but I'm not going to deal with it now that they're on the truck. I even thought about it because I had the pack disassembled to put in the Emu add a leaf.

I hope this Mexico trip is the long overdue vacation you deserve so much for how hard you've been working for the last couple years!!

Yes this is my long overdue solo vacation. My boss joked that she’ll start interviewing for my position in case the cartel picks me up lol.

Didn’t you have trouble installing the Dakar’s? I’m going to contact headstrong and make sure everything is compatible with the 5100’s. I lucked out with the tire my spare and the new one had close enough tread so I have a new KO2 on the RR and two spares now that have been used the last couple years. I do love these tires.

I was thinking for travel purposes in the suspension I might get new coils in preparation for my new bumper and leave the 5100’s up front set where they are. I sure hope these come off with an impact gun the stock ones I had to cut off due to rust.

I’m kinda sad Rye can’t go this trip I didn’t want to deal her traveling internationally.

They soften the bumps, but she's already riding on the bump stops and wants to remedy that. The super bumps will pair nicely with Dakars and some 5125 shocks, but let's not try to spend too much of her money at once.

Bummer the pup isn't going. I say do the rear and don't touch the front until you put on the bumper. The stink bug look is in style :D

Only need one spare E rated. Dakars will work with Bilsteins. You can also remove a leaf if you get too much lift.
