Ummm, how is this related to the tacoma? Also, I feel bad for that poor molested Landcruiser

The stock Tacoma tune takes 87. To my knowledge @OVTune has not touched anything with ignition or timing on the 87 tune. If running 85 on stock works fine then running 85 on the 87 tune will work the same.

The 91 tune has altered ignition and time specifically for 91 octane. Running anything less could yield the results you mentioned.

Even though Toyota lists the Tacoma as 87, they know full well that parts of the country only have 85.
87 is really just known as "regular gas"

Edit: did a little digging and it's only considered safe to run 85 at higher elevations on any car with an 87 requirement.

To my point though, the 87 tune does not change anything with timing or compression so if someone is already running 85 octane, the same results/risk will be there tuned or not

So whats the HP and Torque running 91 tune? At the wheels and at the crank? I know stock HP at the crank is 278 i believe?

Looking at the graph in page 1, it’s 238HP and probably similar torque at the wheel.

Wonder what that translates to at the crank? Im just trying to figure out if we beat the chevy zr2 in hp/torque with this tune. The zr2 makes 308hp at the crank stock.. and tacoma is 278hp at crank

Stop posting your tracking updates. Not relevant to thread. This thread keeps getting way off subject and important things get burried.

The power gains are especially noticeable down low. As for cost, it really depends on how much disposable cash you have for goodies. 91 is about $0.65 p/gal more here in the north east and I easily fill up twice at week.

An extra $100 p/month is expensive, but I've adjusted my kids' college fund. Meh...they'll live :)

I guess this thread would go down to about 50 pages if all the spam was deleted... Thanks for singling me out though

Seeing as you intentionally posted your sarcastic post right after my post yes i singled you out. @OVTune is right we need to raise the age limit for this tune. Now there is several unanswered questions burried and you contributed! They have a 18year old BS thread if you want to talk about your tracking. So PLEASE keep the thread relevant so others can get the help they need.

I would have to disagree with 87 not having any improvements. I ran it for two tanks and if there was not a 91 option, I'd still be satisfied with the tune. It did make noticeably more power in the lower rpms when compared with the stock tune, but nowhere near the gains of 91. Hope that helps.

The 85 is due to high altitude states selling a lower octane to combat the thinner air making detonation harder. If you are in a higher elevation area 85 is sufficiently the same as 87. In one of his messages he said "85/87" and "91-93". Your octane depends on your altitude and (if you have the flux capaciter mod) what geologic era you are in (as O2 levels presumably changed through history).
