I'm looking for ideas for where to carry my spare tire. It's a 285/75/17 and I don't think it will fit underneath in the stock location. I've thought about on top of my camper but then my gas mileage would suffer. So how do you guys carry yours?

A lot of people carry it around their midsection.

I looked through this thread but I didn't see too many that didn't cut the bed up or anything. Has anyone done anything creative to carry theirs? Or has anyone built a rear bumper with a tire carrier?

There are tons of tire carrier bumpers. Look at Relentless Fab. I myself carry it in the bed.

I've got a tiregate for sale.
$500 but shipping would kill ya.

That looks nice, but I have a camper shell and I keep stuff in the bed. Does anyone have any experience with building a rear bumper and tire carrier?

Their are a couple companies that build swing outs for 1st gens. They work with camper shells.

    Someone will chime in.

Been very happy with there stuff. Plus i like that it’s easy on easy off, super solid and if you decide to switch trucks it moves right to the next one.

I had this MAX on my previous truck (pictured) it’s in the garage now waiting for spring to be moved over to the new TACO. I would say opt for a smaller one for a 1st gen as you don’t need the carrying capacity. Either way they’re good guys and I’ve been quite happy with it so far. I have a bracket i might put a HI Lift across the bottom and I’m planning on getting a fuel tank holder(s) as well.

MSRP price is stupid. For 8 bills I could get a full blown bumper. For am extra Hundy a swingout. That's ridiculous. 500 though is much more reasonable
