I noticed this a couple weeks ago. Seems to be getting worse...

Purchased the truck October 2016. I wash or rinse the truck regularly and treat the under carriage w fluid film 2x per year.

Maybe I'm making a big fuss over something minor, but its pretty obvious that it started underneath the paint...as Neil Young says...rust never sleeps.

Pic below is between the cab and bed...this is happening at every tack, only on the passenger side.

Not really expecting much from the dealer....but I will mention it to them.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
F that! If the dealer won't fix it get a shop to take care of it.

Not much pisses me off, but that would. It’s clearly rusting from under the paint and due to lazy / bad prep. You should contact Toyota and ask for a fix, or if you get no joy and care about long life of your truck, take it to a good body shop as it will only get worse. But Most dealer body shops will only mess it up as they are usually clueless and only hire cheapest labor in the body shop.

Right?...no point in fixing it if it isn' done right.

Can' stop thinking about it (the rust). I feel that I've gone above and beyond for rust prevention....then I see this shit. :annoyed:

I’m sure Toyota will fix that and I agree that’s terrible. Lots of body rust showing up on 3rd gens.

Crazy, my 97 Honda Civic that takes on water in the trunk when it rains doesn't have any rust issues. Toyota should be galvanizing everything by now, with their bad rep for rust. WTF.

Wow ... lots of different opinions.

Trade it in on a different color - one that you won't so easily show the rust.

    Take it to another dealer

    Take it to the dealer

Quit spraying fluid film - its not helping.

Quit spraying fluid film - its making matters worse.

Thats like a 6 line haiku - record!

Boeing make some really slick rust prevention application for aircrafts. I put that stuffs on my Honda snowblower and yard machines and it beats rust back sick af. I take a pic of the can and upload it but it’s a bit pricey. Cheap prevention for long term.

So much for that QDR ...haha. This makes me wonder if the issue is specific to a particular assembly plant.

I assume that it's only a matter of time until most cars will be following Ford's footsteps....I know that aluminum can corrode, but it's far less detrimental, as it naturally builds a layer of protection..oxidizes (when exposed).
I understand that the F-150's gets some shit for using aluminum, but they did their research...and it's far superior in terms of longevity and resistance to corrosion. Just make sure you don't drop your toolbox in the bed..;)

Are you referring to Boeshield? I've heard good things about that stuff, but this issue is starting from underneath the paint.

Right? I've seen other posts and mine isn't nearly as bad...still. Not ok. I hope you're right and Toyota takes care of it. For some reason... I'm already mentally preparing to pay for this out of pocket.
If you read their warranty policy....it doesn't give you the warm n fuzzies.

A regional rep took one glance at my truck and said himself this is unacceptable already. Then he noted we could use any body shop I prefer which I went with the dealer shop which is actually a decent place. I also did this to keep it in house to help if there is any future problems with the fix.
