My son is in 5th grade. Had a chat about the impending walk out going on today. The 6-8 grades at his school are planning on it. 1) I told he can't even image the consequences of leaving his classroom without his teacher's permission. 2) We talked about what the walkout stands for. Once he realized that they wanted to prevent him from owning his gun, he was 100% against the walkout.

I made it clear that I had no issue with a walkout as a peaceful protest for something. However, elementary school is too young to understand what it is all about. Also, that 95% of the kids involved have no idea what they are protesting, they just want to get out of school work. He will be a leader and only support issues he has done his own research on and actually believes in.

When I asked him about what the walkout was for, he said, "to prevent guns from being on school campuses." He didn't realize it was already against the law to take a gun to school. These kids have no idea what they are fighting for. I had a good talk about mental illness, and how the law enforcement system failed the kids in Florida. I tried hard not to push my believes, but to just present him with the facts I know.

It's hard for me to see him as old enough to talk about these things, I want to let him just be a kid and not worry about the world yet. However, there are people out there trying to use the innocents of children to change the political culture. He is 10 and should be dreaming about being a fighter pilot and building Legos. Not worrying about walkouts and major political issues. I believe our youth is suffering from greater mental issues because the world wont let them be kids, it is asking them to grow up and start worrying about things before their brain has finished developing. Society today, is killing the child in our youth, that is the greater issue.

I heard something the other day, can't remember where, about an AZ teacher telling her students that this walkout was an organized school function. One student said he would not participate and the teacher told him that if he were to not participate that he would be punished for excluding himself from a school function.....

WTF! As well as mental illness, we need to start looking at the teachers. Teachers spend more time with today's children than today's society allows hard working parents to. Its been a long time since I've been in a classroom but it really makes me wonder what kind of shit these teachers are shoving down our nation's youths throats. We used to be taught out of a book, over the years they have deleted or manipulated large sections of history and facts out of the history books we grew up reading. Today it seems as though a teacher can teach opinion or speculation rather than fact. Ugh.... so more more I could say but ill stop there. Rant over.

I worked as IT in a school district for several years, I saw a lot of this first hand. Some teachers would slowly be pushing their ideas, they realized the influence they had over the kids. Parents work all day and even take work home, and constantly tell their kids to listen to the teacher and do what they say. We empower the teacher to have this control over our kids, but so many don't check up to make sure it is focused on the right subjects. We see news stories of this all the time. It is a small group of teachers, but still, we have to stay vigilant and involved to prevent it.

We instruct our kids to respectfully disagree with someone we have placed in authority over them (sitter, teacher, police, etc) but in the end, do what they are told. Then come to use and tell us about it. Time and place for everything. I have no issues getting in people's faces to defend the way we raise our kids. However, they will loose said battles, and make it hard for me to fight for them, if they get into a fight with a teacher, or are disrespectful.

There are too many teachers who no longer see their job as just teaching fact. We had teachers at my high school 11-15 years ago openly pushing their very liberal opinions on the students and punishing the ones that disagreed. Even after multiple meetings with the principal, nothing was ever done. Public school teachers and their unions are too powerful and nobody is scared of being fired (unless you commit a serious crime).

I saw a friend on FB make a post about banning pitbulls.... I was, what the hell are you doing? This post will get destroyed, you aren't allowed to have this opinion openly. Then, as I watched, I realized he was turning the table on the liberals going after AR-15s. They use the same arguments about why pitbulls are safe as gun owners do about AR-15s. After an hour of people blowing the post up, he went in and explained what he was doing... oh now they got really mad! How dare he use their way of thinking against them.

I thought this was a great social experiment and proved his point. SO the next time someone starts going off about banning certain firearms, ask them if they support banning pitbulls too. If they say yes, well they are just nuts! But, if they start argues that they aren't killers, its the people that own them and use them wrong... well, they just won your argument for you.

OK, I am done with my coffee and need to go and be productive. May your day be full of Pi(es), steaks and.....

I work in education and used to fly around the country sitting in classroom and observing how my product was used. The shit I've seen and heard from teachers is mind blowing. There wasn't many teachers who really cared about their students. Most of them I meet it was just a job and nothing more than that. With how much they don't get paid and for how much stress they put up with I don't really see this issue getting any better. Being a teacher, IMO, is one of the worst jobs you can have.
