What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Tried that, line is clear... sucks lol idk what to do. All is well until boost then it falls on its face and the box buzzes like crazy.

 

The brass nipple coming out of the charger to the fpr is the wrong size for the hose so I have a connector to downsize it, maybe that’s the problem idk. The smallest I can find is a 1/4” outlet. Need to find one like this for it and see if it’s a pulsation issue to the urd box under boost? I even put the boost gauge t before the urd t to see if it would function better that way and no luck..

 

Seems like the most logical explanation is that you have a blockage somewhere, perhaps a kink in the vacuum line somewhere? Odd that the boost port on the back of the SC had a different size brass barb. How did you have room to fit a reducer in there as well? There's only like 2" between the boost port and the FPR.
If you can, post up a photo of your setup.

 

What is your AFR when it boosts? If the controller is not getting boost signal, the 7th will not fire, so you should be running lean while in boost.

 

I hate that kinky plastic line to the urd controller. It wants to kink all the time so I took extra precautions when running it and blew through it after to make sure it was clear.

AFR’s go from 11-12.5 and when I floor it the gauge bottoms at 10 and the motor just looses all power. Seems to flood the piss out of it. The box is going nuts obviously not functioning like it should. Only hitting 6 psi max and I’m at sea level with a 2.2 pulley. No boost or 1-2 psi is runs great. Any more and it’s a mess.. I’m open to ideas. Truck is an 02 and feel like it should respond well to the 7th and I’m just missing something. I’ll get a pic of the vacuum hose in the morning light

 

sounds like you need to open up the tuner app and pull some fuel.

 

Probably could in the back, except maybe when I'm in extreme stuff. Definitely not in the front though...at least, not if I want to turn, hahahahaha!

Probably not going to buy a set of chains for the 33's though; only used them a few times with the 31's in 18 years.

 

Yeah something's definitely not right, the base tune should be perfectly driveable out of the box. I can send you a copy of the base tune I have, which is what was on it when I got it from URD, although it'll be a couple days until I can pull it from the controller.

The other thing worth doublechecking is the controller wiring, it is super easy to fuck that up.

Agreed. I'm still having issues after swapping plugs, just not as much. I might just opt for a custom water/meth kit to add a bit more to the AFR and cool the IAT.

 

He has Expos now, not Alcans, and was using the plates before to move the axle back. Which is what a lot of people end up doing with Dakars.

Odd. So with that same stock measurement and 33s, I had clearance issues with the front. You need to go really stuff a rear tire and see how bad, if it all, it rubs.

 

At what height should your bpv be?
I got a bamf bracket to correct it, but want to make sure I adjust to the correct height

 

Has anyone done the rear drum backing plates? Doing some reading and found I'm going to need a sst (special service tool). So Google returns nothing about the tool. Any ideas if I really need one or not? Never done it and rather not rip it all apart and not have the right tool. I can't find any write ups for tacomas maybe try a 4runner write up? Should be the same 96-02?

Yeah petty sure I had to move my axle forward 3/4'' to avoid tearing into the rear flare.

 

I used to chew the front of the rear flare up when flexing with 285s and dakars. Then I moved it back 1 inch and it was all good. Had to move the expos I have now back as well...

 

What plate did you use? I found Allpros but would prefer to not deal with them.

I found a few others and I assume they’re all basically the same.
