Amp under back seat in DubCab

Has anyone installed their amp in the storage bins under the back seat? I'm really not crazy about losing my storage behind the seats and I'd like to try and make this work. I think I've seen a picture of this on here before, but for the life of me I can't find it.

The amp in question is an Infinity Kappa 4 with dimensions of 7-1/16"W x 1-3/4"H x 14-5/8"D, which will fit under there with the plastic removed. http://signature.crutchfield.com/S-UCwCXZyAQY1/s_108KAPPA4/Infinity-Kappa-Four.html

I installed my JL Audio G4500 amp under my driver's seat. It hang out in the back a little but the floor mat covers it.

 

That would work too. Just trying to give myself some options, I ordered the amp last night and I've got the wheels turning in my head as how I'm going to rig it all up.

 

I am running the Kappa Five in my 03 Accord. So far a great amp.

 

I had it done on the seat back. You lose a little storage space but it's not bad. I still have a lot of stuff stored back there. Wiring runs under the seat back and out the bottom. It's been that way for quite a while now. No issues.

 

I love it when a plan comes together.

I got my amp install finished this afternoon, my Kappa 4 fit in the storage bin under the seat no problem. I made a mount for it out of a piece of 3/4 MDF and threw some carpet on it. I ran my RCA's and speaker wire through the trans/driveline tunnel as a last minute decision, instead of going along the rockers. All in all, I'm happy with the result for my first amp install, it was more time consuming than anything. I'm still amazed at how easy the interior of this truck comes apart, all the electrical plugs were designed by somebody with half a brain, they come apart so easy, no fumbling around trying to find the right tab to push or pull.

Thanks, not yet. I'm going to wait and see how warm it runs. There is a smidgen of room on either side of the amp. I may end up cutting a few vent holes in the side of the plastic storage bin, or worst case scenario I'll have to add a fan. But, we shall see.

 

Nice work! So long as you're not pushing a sub w/it, I wouldn't think overheating would be an issue...but sounds like you have a plan just in case.

I love the use of space....and the fact you must have had time for a quick shave when you were done.

Any problems with overheating? For the life of me, I can't find the thread around here with pictures of a similar set up. Someone else put his amps there, and even hooked up some cooling fans. I remember searching for something one day, and came across it, but now can't remember what I was searching for lol!

 

Well its been about 3 weeks now since I did the install. No overheating issues what so ever, amp runs cool enough in its current location without any modifications.....I'm pleased to say.

i took out my under seat storage bins which gave me a ton of room for both my amps and all my wires
