Been running the Med Duty Dakar leafs (which state 0 LBS constant load for 2.75" of lift) for about 8 months now without my CBI rack on my 08. Right now the leafs look like mustaches, I'm wondering if putting the OME AAL on there for permanently running my CBI rack will be a good idea/feasible. Or should I consider just upgrading to the Heavy Duty(boasting 660 LBS constant for 2.75") Also for those of you who run the Dakars plus the OME AAL, how has your ride characteristics changed?

I had been debating on whether not to go with 1/4 in spacers with 886/9000 up front. I have installed my ARB with a Warn VR-10000S winch. I think I'll leave the spacers out, but still swap to the 886/9000 combo. This pic is still with 887/5100s I think I lost less than an inch front after adding the weight. I didn't take measurements.

What problems did you have with this setup? I ran that same combo for 40k miles without issue. Getting ready to go to 886s with the spacers since Ive added a s/c, winch, and front bumper.

No major problems to speak of.

I've only had the ARB and winch on since Saturday and just made few trips in town. I do notice body roll when going around turns (no sway bar). The 887/5100 actually hold the additional weight better than I was expecting.

I've been running the 887/5100 combo for about 20k with no major extra weight and its been a great combo, but I'm installing 886s next week. I'm expecting about to get about same ride height I have now after the switch, but better handling.

If you are wanting around 2in lift with bumper and winch, and still have a sway bar, then the 887/5100 combo would probably work ok. May nose dive a bit more while stopping.

I just think that he 886 is the correct coil for my application. I considered adding the 1/4in spacer on top of the 886s, but I don't think I'll need it.

*** I did have major problems when I had the 1/4 spacer on top of my 887 on the left side only for the lean, ate 2 cv's on the same offroading trip, the left side was drooping too far and the L cv would bind and fail, removed the spacer, accepted my fate of having a slight lean and no problems since***

This is the part I was curious about. I run a .5 spacer on the drivers side and a .25 on the pass side with no ill effects so far (10k miles with the spacers in there) and my cvs are nowhere near a bad angle although with an additional 200+ lbs up front I'm only at 2.5" up front. I'm very interested to see how yours turns out. I also run no sway bar and was hoping the 886s would take some of the body roll out even if its only a little better. unfortunately I can't share any fender measurements because I've got cut fenders now lol.

I think it was b/c of the 887 +1/4 driver spacer with minimal extra weight up front that was causing me problems. Probably the best way to check would be to jack up the front end and spin the wheels with steering turned full lock both ways and see if you have any binding in your cv axles. I found out I had binding the bad way. This has been my theory on why I had problems b/c after I removed that 1/4 in spacer on the L, never had a problem. My CV angles never looked bad while sitting on level ground FYI.

886+1/4 spacer I'm guessing yields the same down travel as an 887 with no spacer, so that is probably fine.

I'd definitely test your 886+1/2spacer to see if you have binding at full droop. Of course all these trucks seem to be a little different, you are probably 100% fine and there is a chance I might be the only one that had this problem.

Anyone have any pictures of a 3rd gen running 5100’s with OME 887 or 888’s? Got the 5100’s in & debating on waiting to get the OME’s and AAL’s before installing the 5100’s in front and rear. I won’t be doing much towing & hauling will be minimal. Off road occasionally but mostly highway driving to work. Any tips or help?

Thanks for the banter @danbow I'll be watching and will update if I pull the trigger on my end. I'll probably check for binding this weekend while I'm cleaning up my inner fender wells and finish my cmc.

Can anyone confirm if the new dakars are marked with "+" or "-" ? I just got a set off ebay and they don't appear to be side specific. I thought a while back I saw pictures of springs that were marked so if you got a "-" you would put that on the passenger side and if you ended with with 2 "+" 's you just install them and move forward. Thanks

Got the lift finally on! Rides like a dream! For the access cab guys wondering about OME 887s with winch and bumper? they are perfect in my opinion, got around 2.5inch of lift in front and rear (from Dakars). Will post pics of CVs and other components later.

Stopped by Headstrong yesterday and picked up a BP-51 kit with the HD Dakars. Last trip we went on it was painfully obvious we have maxed out the factory suspension. Hoping to install soon.

Any 3rd gen 2.7 ac 4x4 guys running 887s and billys? I think I've decided this is what I'm going with. Hopefully it won't be to stiff.

I got mine new from Headstrong a couple months ago. Included both the "+" and "-" on them. I'm not sure if that's definitive though. From what I'd found during my install it sounded like, "if you have the marks, this is where they go" otherwise it doesn't matter.

    Greetings.

I don't have a Tacoma yet, but am about to get one. This is my third time exploring this site and don't really know what I'm doing. However, this looks like an active thread. Hopefully, I can get some counsel here from some mucho more experienced "Taco Fellowz".

So please bare with me! Thx...

    Anyways!,
I am interested in setting up a quality shock/suspension system for my future ride.

I wanna put a shell/swing out steel bumper/racks/drawer system, PLUS kayak and full Yeti with camping gear...blah blah blah...on the "rear".

Also, want to get like 2-2.5 inch lift for some quality tires (basically the ones y'all use)

Vague?... yes. Sorry for all these words to read, if you choose to.

BUT! How on earth can I still get a quality 4x4 Tacoma Off Roading experience (shocks/suspensions/leveled out vehicle) W/O compromising what I want?

    What would y'all reccomend?

Custom pack. Dakars would work for a bit but overtime will die with that much weight.
