Well I did it. Grabbed some touch up matte black from the auto parts store. All it took was a steady hand and a wish and a prayer. Interior chrome and silver is completely gone! Damn it feels good. Cracking a beer and gonna sit in the darkness of the chrome-less cab

Haha... it's actually the MGM color of the truck. I'm good with everything interior and exterior being MGM/Black. I'm so close. Just looks bright in the pic. I misspoke though... the seatbelts!!!

Window tint (30/5 front/rear), mud guard delete, hood lift system, and debadged.
The part arrived Saturday morning and I got it installed today. Works perfectly and looks great!

    Tools needed:

First, I started by removing the module from the door panel. I recommend watching this video for helpful hints.
Be careful not to pull up too hard or you could risk damaging the harnesses that are connected.
[IMG] Next, I removed the three screws (blue) holding the window buttons in place to allow easier access to the 5 tabs (red) holding the mirror knob in place.
I then wedged my pry tools in on each side and pushed the knob from the back side to get the module out. (Please ignore the window buttons in the photo. I took it before I learned it would be easier to remove the module without them there).
CAUTION: beware of glass and debris that may be in the unit. I found some tempered glass that fell out after I removed the module. The vehicle this came from was likely in an accident and parted out. Lucky for me!
The modules look to be a direct replacement; Tacoma on the left, Sienna on the right. I did not see anything that made the black bezel module discernable from the chrome-trimmed piece in the part number (Perhaps I was looking at the wrong number?). Note: do not mix up the window button modules as they are not a direct replacement and the harness will not plug into the module.
Now you can reverse the process by installing the blacked out module into your Tacoma panel and installing it back in the truck!
Here is a video of the finished product:

Being the cheapo that I am, I purchased the whole thing for $55.88. I reinstalled the chrome-trimmed module into the Sienne panel and I am returning it for a full refund, minus shipping. So, in reality, I only spent about $10.23 on this mod and it will not chip or dull like paint/sharpie.

I ordered mine on Tuesday, can't wait to get them installed when they come in. Got the ajt inserts and pro knob insert at the same time.

I just did this too. Found a cheap Sienna master switch panel on eBay. Took less than 5 minutes to swap the chrome with black in my Tacoma. Looks way better and works perfectly! Will install the chrome knob into the Sienna panel and then sell on eBay.

Do you have any pictures of the cup holder area. Does all the chrome get covered up pretty well?

Does this part light up? And if it does, is it the right color?

Yes. Mine was a perfect color match. It came out of a 2001 Sienna.

So, I messaged @rrentrop about this but figured i'd mention here too. I actually tackled the shifter ring the other day and 4wd selector.

For the shifter ring, I had looked through all the posts, tried the vinyl as others mentioned and had been looking at rubber gaskets to sit on top, but what I ended up doing was easy, cheap and quick. I popped off that center console, pushed the boot through to see the ring is only held on with a zip tie so I just pulled it out and painted it up. To actually pull it out it took no more than 5 minutes. The reinstall took a little bit longer, 10 minutes or so, to get it aligned nicely with the boot and then to seat the sip tie properly in the groove.

As for the 4wd ring, I wouldn't recommend what I did unless you don't care about breaking a few clips as it holds the outer ring on. I pulled the lower console out, unplugged and removed the switch then took it inside to my bench where I tackled it. Long story short, it isn't designed to come apart once the switch has been assembled , but if you are careful and patient, you can remove the ring and the clips inside will break. No worries though, as once I painted it up, it fit in very snugly again however I do intend to glue it permanently.

Now, aside from replacing the mirror knob with that of a Sienna, all I have left is the chrome emblem on the steering wheel.

That is plastic welded on from what I have read here, so unless someone has a a better suggestion, my next step will be to remove the airbag cover and tackle that next.

I thought I had seen in a post somewhere that @mesojdm had recolored his, so perhaps ask him for any insight on that item. I seem to recall he had done something different, like realtree. I'm honestly surprised I don't see more stuff aquadipped here...

Yeah, I saw all that, i'm going for permanent though, and although I love the vent and cup holder overlay decals, for anything else, i'm going to be removing, sanding and painting, where ever possible.
