OK not everyone in an Explorer tailgates me but it seems to happen quite often. I usually just floor it and let the guy eat my dust and he usually backs off but sometimes the person gets too close for comfort!!?

I don't want to cause an accident .... I just want my space!!!!

    Cheers.

i usually give them a brake tap. Just enough to let my lights come on. That seems to do the trick.

    Looking!
I learned another trick for making them back off; by turning on your windshield washers for a moment. For some reason, people back off when the overspray hits their car. Learned this from the corvette forum.

I did have one tailgater that I sprayed hurry up and pass me, and then he "returned the favor" :D. Maybe that made him feel better, but I thought it was funny. Either way, the guy was off my bumper.

I usually just start spitting sunflower seeds out my window. If you do it right they back off quicker than the windshield wipers :)

The worse tailgaters here in South Texas, well at least for me, are the U.S. Border Patrol in their Chevy Tahoe. The break tap works fine with them as well. They also are notorious speeders.

I ride the white line and drift over alittle more like I'm not paying attention. I know that my tires are throwing some debris up off the side of the road...they back off really fast after a couple dings in the hood.

They want a close look at your middle fingers for some reason. Also some of them are trying to measure their reaction times, so to oblige them jam on your brakes. I'm not advocating that, just suggesting, sometimes it works great (one moon-faced woman's face was priceless, I was watching in the rear view when I hit the brakes), sometimes they back off and then are right back where they were, then they start flipping you off from their front yard every time you pass by and you have to stop and back up and stand in the road and call them out, and sometimes they get mad and try to run you over and you have to pull off the road and tussle with them as they try to steal your keys, because they are so stupid they think you are the stupid one and shouldn't be driving. Next one to try that stunt (yeah - it happened) will be left twitching on the ground. Mostly they are just curious about your middle fingers. Tailgators are the spice of driving.

FWIW (probably not much), my brother claims it is the rednecks in the Tacomas that tailgate him.

It's usually little ricer civics that try to tail gate me. So i slow down or give them a break check, it works 99.9% of the time

I was being tailgated by some Tard in the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel... I brake checked him... No response... I did it again... No response... I SLAMMED on my breaks and watched him slide... and he was back on my bumper... I seriously think VA has the worst drivers in America. I'm glad to be leaving... But sometimes want to get a big steel rear bumper and let them hit me. It would hurt them far more than it'd hurt me. Mybe they'd learn then...
