This is what I think will make your camper the best of the wedge's. The GFC is awesome and new and fancy and slick, but having to play floor-igami to get out of bed seems like it would be super annoying. Stoked to see this! When do we get to see more of the inside?

This is the one reason I'm not interested at all in the GFC. I do like their design and the materials, etc. But having a tiny overhang and forcing me to fill in a floor every night had zero appeal. I want to stand and use the interior without having to fuck with the bed. If the vagabond one isn't long enough either I'll just go buy a custom.

Also. In a way different price range, but it is a wedge camper. Earthcruiser GZL.

So great to see all of the options coming out...Im curious why all of these new setups seems to be pop ups? The Flip-pac, although it had its issues, was a revelation imo. The cavernous space that is available in the flip-pacs, and now the habitats is so beneficial at camp.

So obviously there are some benefits to this Wedge-falia style. My brother has a VW and I am most definitely envious of how quickly it deploys, and packs away. Also in torrential storms the hard roof is preferable... What else is it that makes it so preferable? I mean if it weren't there would surely be more fold out styles coming out right?

IT would also be interesting to make a running list of all of their weights.

Great idea for a thread, and if this is not the place to discuss this just let me know and Ill remove my post.

    Good discussion, IMO.

I drooled when I saw the Flip-Pac. It seemed like a killer approach, but reading up on the issues that folks had with big items like the hinge and platform alignment put me off. Working the rain fly was a con for me. If I had to go there, I'd just stick with a ground tent or grab an RTT.

I said in the GFC thread that I camped a couple nights in my cousin's long gone Type II Westy. The ability setup and stow in seconds was pure ease and genius. No real work to waterproof and such more time for fun.

Beyond that, I enjoy off season camping. Being able to set up anywhere and any weather is important to me.

And, lightness. I like the way my Taco rides now and would like to preserve that with and without a Wedge top. BTW, I really like Wedge-falia! The GFC prototype tour noted no affect on MPGs.

Beyond all that is budget and utility. The wedges can be used as a canopy topper for dry storage or long load hauler with an upper rack.

Yes, the issues you brought up concerning the flip pac were big ones for me as well. Luckily Adventure Trailers has addressed each of them with their habitat. Hinges are stout as hell, no more torsion bar, no problems with alignment due to fixed hinges, and no more rain fly with their great nemo tents.

I could never have a Four wheel camper, or any slide in camper, as I still use my truck as a truck and need the bed space.

No issues at all with movement while sleeping, we sleep with our feet towards tailgate. I also have a TC SUA with HD Deaver leaf pack so that may stave off some unwanted movement, or maybe it does move and just doesn't bother us? Honestly with shocks it seems like it would just be more forgiving, not like your bouncing on just the leaf springs.

The aluminum shell is a HUGE plus for me as it really is like a blank canvas and has allowed for a total of 44 feet (so far) of L track, which as you probably know affords a hard to beat modularity.

Will be interested to hear what you think of the Wedge style after having used the Flip-pac. Any idea when you will have it?

It’s hard to explain the platform area at the nose of the camper, but the useable length is 50”. You could go fetal position, or sit on the edge of the platform. If you’re taller, you could pull the mattress up and sit directly on the sleeping platform for extra headroom.

I can sit up there comfortably, with my legs hanging into the truck bed, and am 6’-2”. Factor in my small butt and and average height person should have no problem up there. ;)

It sounds like this is for the short bed. I'm assuming the long bed has a shorter over hang over the cab. Does it have the same 2 panel bed, or are those different?

Maybe name this thread "Pop-up truck campers" like expedition portal does.

Love all the competition. After seeing a lot of the dimensions it sounds like the GFC has more bed space at 90” compared to 80” on the Vagabond? But just looking at photos it seems like the Vagabond has a bit more interior room, I estimated it around 11” more just guesstimating from pics (Vagabond protrudes more into driver’s door while GFC stays within contents of rear door, and GFC is slanted at back while Vagacond isn’t). Also there is no announcement of Vagabond supporting other platforms than Tacoma’s while GFC is hitting all the platforms at once. Should be interesting.

I call them "topper-campers" or "cap-campers". The alu-cab is a slide in like the non flatbed 4wc. Not sure why its in here since it is a completely different bad idea all together (why would you keep the bed????)
