Trying to save for a house right now, and its still frustrating.

But coming from the LA and Seattle areas where the good houses start in the 6-800K range, I can sympathize.

There are things that I miss about living and working in the DC beltway, but they are more than offset by the amount of outdoorsy stuff to do around here.

Like anywhere else, SLC has its quirks and pros/cons, but that's life.

Reminds me of 90s Cap Hill Seattle before Amazon and the like decimated it. After living there in 2014-2015, I am not sure I ever want to go back and that is "home" for me. :(

For sure, keep saving and the time will come. I bought around '08 when the market was soft. If you don't have a mortgage and are ready to buy the next time the market takes a downward swing, you'll be in good shape.

Ideally, I'd love like a 10k sq ft warehouse with like a 1br attached.

Gotta have room for the taco, 3 mtn bikes, and maybe a Defender 110 or something down the line. I try to be courteous in my apt complex, but you can only make an angle grinder so quiet on a saturday morning.

    YES
My bro-in-law just bought a place cause it had a huge garage, and the rest of the house was good enough for his wife to tolerate. I support this.

Which page(s) are you on? Any worth following? I dabbled a few years back but didn't find any I liked.

UTOR is pretty good. I don't follow a lot of the goings on, but a lot of good, knowledgeable ( and most importantly local) help that can solve damn near any issue.

Utah Recovery Offroad Network (UROR) is a good one to have in your back pocket too if you ever get stuck and have cell signal (which seem to be mutually exclusive in UT)

Props you are still upbeat about dc. Man this area blows ass, but I’m a Cali dude so it is what it is. I’m seriously thinking about getting my resume out there in a few months. Hopefully they have mechanical engineering jobs to some degree.

I was also a young and dumb .gov agency type, so maybe it was shitty and we just didn't know it yet. That said, I went to visit my parents last Christmas in the Manassas area, and I forgot how much that area is just boring suburban sprawl. But the happening craft brew scene is pretty cool with 2 Silos, The Farm, etc. That started after I left. Thankfully, SLC's beer scene is picking up.

If you move here via I-90, DO NOT stop at the Conoco gas station in Lame Deer, MT on rt 212. Indian country both literally and metaphorically.

That'd be killer, if for nothing else than I'd get to drool on your truck.

There are lots of local businesses looking for good help. What type of employer are you looking for?

I’m currently in the rail and transit design field, but would love to jump into automotive or something. Hvac and plumbing although is always needed, is a little too dry for my tastes. Dude you need to get the bro emblem going! We can be the “bros!”

Where did you get it done? I live in the salt lake area too and have been thinking about doing leather in my truck. I recently got a new rav4 at karl malone toyota and saw they offered after market leather but was wondering if they were any good. Yours turned out awesome.

The shop that works through Karl Malone (M&M automotive) is all right, but I had mine done by Auto Trim Design in South Salt Lake. They were great to work with, and were the shop Katzkin recommended.
